Nice synopsis but flawed with at least 2 errors I see from the getgo:

Jackson Miss should be in the worst crime metro areas and near the top. It is G-dawful. They do their best to skew the facts there. Maybe it wasn't big enough but Little Rock is on the list and they are about the same size.

Tennesseee has no state income tax and we (including a few dozen FReepers) have fought like Hell the past few years to keep it that way.

Just my observances.

Thanks for the information, but...

Florida has no income tax and low property taxes, and has Jeb Bush for governor, and both houses of Legislature heavily Republican.

The two areas you are talking about for visible gay dominance are Miami BEACH (a small area) and Key West, also tiny in area. Who a few miles S, N, W would ever notice this?

Florida's statistically reported high crime rate is because, like Texas, this state cracks down heavily upon violent and stranger-victim crime, encouraging persons to report things that in the Northeast would be merely suffered, not reported. Also, actual crime here is more localized in a few identified areas and often against persons known and not themselves very innocent.

VERY safe neighborhoods are in all parts of the State, and I think the average Floridian worries very little about crime.

You are right about the cost thing, this State has become quite crowded, with high prices for buildable land and thus cannot compare with the very lowest-cost housing states, where you list ten there.

In its defense I can only say (a) your net housing cost is not just what is paid for the house, but that LESS the increase in value of the home, plus taxes and maintenance paid. If that is taken into account, it is hard to beat Fla. and many have actually been living virtually free; (b) Florida has a very vibrant economy, very resistant to slumps, and a large population, which the more remote and isolated shangri-las cannot touch for those who must still work.

Also, studies show Florida is still not disappointing those who move here. While Californians flee by the millions, and those who go there usually hate it and leave, Florida still has nearly everyone who ever saw the place, still living here. Even those who find the summers too long and hot often just spend some time in the mtns or other cool places in summer... but would rarely actually move away for that reason.

Of all states, Fla is still in the top 3 for satisfaction on the part of those who have moved here, IOW, while many of the other possible sites are known for disappointing and thus "bouncing" many of those who go there. Still #1 and unchallenged for being "sticky" once one has ever lived here, ie addictive, and has a vibrant economy and no demographic disaster or nightmare...

Compare Arizona, overwhelmed by Hispanics and not able to cope, economy foundering under the load... and of course Cal. is much worse...

Privilege? My dad didn't make upper middle class till I was long gone, but I admit his success has had perks like the Grandfather MT digs which I could never afford myself. I'm just a struggling middle-middle class 44 year old with a bunch of children and a wife and ex-wife to compense. I lived an adventurous life all over everywhere till around 6 years ago.

Orlando is not really Southern anymore. My dad built the water and sewer utility infrastructure for Mickey Land back in the early 70s. Back then, the interstate didn't even go thru town. I know folks who live on the lakes west of town. Lots of sprawl....like Houston without refineries and with amusement parks. Not for me...and yes it is hotter and more humid than here.

Jacksonville is ok. I spent the summer of 1977 working on Jax Beach for my father. Neptune and Atlantic and of course Ponte Vedra are nice but inner city Jacksonville has serious black crime issues. Avondale and San Marco(?) areas are interesting. The homes on the St Johns south of town are also sweet but again very humid and hot. Can you still drive on the beach there? Lots of military around...a plus.

Charlotte is Nashville's rival. It is more deep South. Prettier women....Nashville for some reason slips in that department. Charlotte again has a much worse black crime problem. Nashville probably has a worse white trash element. White trash has lost it's dignity in recent years I've noticed. Sad, I remember when being poor and white or black for that matter did not defacto mean one had to live without pride and responsibility. All my kin fit this category till my paternal grandfather made his mark and pulled the family out of the piney woods of Mississippi in the 40s. Anyhow enough waxing lol, Charlotte is hotter and more humid and less scenic, but is quite close to the big Appalachins (2 hours)max to Blowing Rock. Maybe I'm just partial. BTW, the entire Piedmont is being conquered by liberals as we speak. Not good.

Greenville-Spartanburg: One rung down on the population scale and sort of not comparable. What I saw there I like fine enough.

Winston-Greensboro: More black crime. I have friends in Winston and a cousin in Greensboro. Hotter and more humid. Winston has a nice flair though. One could do worse.

Mobile-Pensacola: Mobile proper has the same crime issues as my hometown of Jackson. The eastern shore as I've already stated is lovely. I like the entire panhandle of Florida for the beaches mostly and it's conservative. I would go with Rosemary Beach or St. George's. I left out Boca Grande on my list earlier. Further south below Sarasota/Venice. I love Boca Grande but it is way pricey.

Wytheville? I ate at an old colonial tavern house there last year. I like the whole I-81 corridor from Abingdon to Staunton....and yes I do like Highland county.

You and I obviously have a different climate preference. St Augustine is nice. Along with Sebastion Inlet...probably the best waves on the FL east coast.

BTW, I think some of the folks making fun of rural folks living in trailers or Jim Walter type homes is rather snotty. I see nothing wrong with a decent trailer or modular home on acreage in a rural setting if that's what someone wants or can afford. If they live like slobs and create a junkyard on their property then I guess they are fair game for deriding.

Regards.

If you are a homosexual, you should love SodoMiami.

Christians are right now, as we speak, falsely accused and arrested in Miami, Fl because they dared to exercise their constitutional rights and protest the takeover of Miami by homosexuals.  Those Christians are political prisioners.  If justice had not fallen in the street we might have an opportunity to see the true facts, but the semen and feces stained hands of the homosexuals have paid off those in control in the government and media so the Christians cannot be treated fairly.  Christians are consistently lied about and mistreated.

I was just reading the Miami newspaper online.  Click  Click  This is so disgusting: homosexual adoption lawsuit for Florida goes to court again on November 11, but the second article is worse: congressional candidate's gay son, a rabbi!  A search on his name came up with this paragraph:

A million people will be turning to an overwhelmed clergy,” said Rabbi Stephen Roberts, **chair of the conference and president of the National Association of Jewish Chaplains**

Even taking into account that the Miami Herald makes it sound like everyone is homosexual or pro-homosexual:

If the homosexual ordinance is not repealed on Sept. 10, homosexual adoption is passed, and congressional candidate wins because of Jews voting for her (and her stance on homosexual issues and because of her homosexual son who is a rabbi), all G-d fearing Jews and Gentiles in the state will be better off on a raft headed for Cuba.
