A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 8-19-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

SOME OF FR'S FINEST PROFILE PAGES #2

Many Freepers have taken advantage of the opportunity to create a Profile Page. The results of these creations are often illuminating, humorous, inspirational, artistic or biographic, just to mention a few descriptive words.

Below are some randomly selected Finest FR Profile Pages. There are, of course, many other Finest Free FR Profile Pages worthy of featuring, and we hope to do some of them in the future, perhaps on a regular basis. If you have a Profile Page you would like to share, or if you come across a Profile Page that you want to bring to our attention, you know the drill - freepmail Billie, Mama_Bear or myself.

In the meantime, take a look at Some of FR Finest Profile Pages #2

Drew68 has put together a Profile Page that is, well, a profile page in the true meaning of the word. He discusses his biography, his interests and his views and includes a few photographs of himself. His Profile Page is pretty complete but he says there are more links and photos to come. Take a look, (especially you single ladies as Drew68 is not married!)

Slyfox has dedicated his Profile Page to the Clinton Crimes of which he believes there are 234. He has listed many of them and has provided some graphics of Bill and Hillary Clinton in prison garb. And, heh, they look great in stripes...lol.. Thanks Slyfox for reminding us of what sleeze the Clintons were and still are.

CyberCowboy777 describes himself as an Originalist, believing in the validity of both the Bible and US Constitution in original form and meaning, with only a Conservative interpretation for the current times. His Profile Page illuminates these views. There are also links to Constitution Party (formerly American Taxpayers Party) publications. Also some photos here and there of President Reagan and John Wayne. This is an enlightening and informative Profile Page.

Hispanarepublicana has written an inspirational autobiographical essay for her Profile Page. It is a good read on many levels and is so cool that it has even provoked its own thread. This is one of the replies on that thread..."You are not only extremely wealthy, you have reminded a few others of us how wealthy we are, too."

William Wallace has created a very pleasant Profile Page. It consists of photographs and quotes of "his heroes". He leads off with one of our heroes, President Reagan. Next is Lou Gehrig and a copy of his Farewell Speech. Then comes Malcom Muggeridge. This is a most pleasing and enjoyable Profile Page. Thank you William Wallace.

Just Amy's Profile Page is Just Cute!! She has displayed her numerous signature .gifs (over 50) for us to enjoy at one glance. These .gifs were mostly gifts to her from her friends (such as St.Louie1 who is credited with over 50). Thank you Just Amy for putting a smile on our face.

Just now have had a chance to look at all the highlighted homepages! Have enjoyed them all! Some make me laugh, some make me take notes, some make me think, and all make me remember what a unique place is Free Republic that it draws such as the home page makers (and many more) highlighted today. Kudos to all with homepages heighlighted. Now, if JustAmy could teach me how she does the graphics table.....(I know it's easy - I just have never tried doing a table here....lazy, I know).

Well, sorry can't stay. Will check out other webpages later and be back here later on I hope.

(finally remembering to use the logo from Billie.thanks again, Billie...)

In Bush Country

Excerpt:

I asked Josh what he was up to, adding that of course it was a stupid question. His response made me glad I had asked it, however. He said that he had been with the President all month, and liked being in Crawford, "because the President has time relax, and to step back and look at the big picture." This underscores the idiocy of the media's carping at Bush's Crawford retreat. The media is more aware than the rest of us of the mind-numbing schedules that even ordinary politicians, let alone presidents, must follow. In the interests of all of us the press should be clamoring for the commander-in-chief to take more respites than he does.

< snip >

He liked being in Crawford, he said, because he could take a walk and not have people looking at him. He said he never forgot for a moment that the office of the presidency was greater than the man who held it. That he was always conscious that he had the office in trust, and of the privilege it was for him to serve.

It was a short down home speech and he broke its flow frequently for off-the-cuff jokes, which the crowd roundly enjoyed. But its combination of levity, warmth and moral seriousness showed why his popularity has stayed so high so many months after 9/11 -- higher than any president's in history including Roosevelt's after Pearl Harbor. The more Americans get to know this man, the deeper and broader his support will become.

I have been through the presidential photo line on several occasions and know how brief the face-to-face moment can be. Especially since I was with my wife and would be placed beside the First Lady, while she would stand next to him. As I approached him and he flashed a smile of recognition, I had the pending decision over Iraq on my mind, and wanted to say something to him which would reflect how I and others felt about his courage and vision. I was not about to offer him any policy advice. It would be presumptuous and foolish of me to shoot a sound-bite in his direction on such matters.

Those of us who have been privileged to observe George Bush up close -- even as briefly as I have on a few occasions in the past -- know that he is a serious and intelligent man. He is also a man with a moral core who will weigh his decisions carefully, and will digest first the military and intelligence material necessary to make them. You can never doubt the gravity of this man when it comes to the responsibilities of his office. In the end, one's sense of him is that he will make his decision according to what he believes is right, which is the real source of most Americans' confidence in his leadership.

So what I said to him was this: "Your heart is where America is. Trust it and you'll be right." Which he knows anyway, and which is why we have trusted him with our fates.

"But you worked hard on this beautiful thread, so you deserve to rest."

Why thank you r4. But the "hard" part was putting it together and that was last week. Once it is posted and running, then that is the "fun" part, getting to "talk" to everyone and share thoughts and graphics....

And, of course, deserving a rest and needing a rest are two different things...hee hee...

Say, how about some tea.....

If I were President, I would not even talk to the media while at the Ranch...

U.S. President George W. Bush answers questions from the press while first lady, Laura, listens after attending a volunteer barbecue lunch at the Crawford Community Center in Crawford, Texas, August 16, 2002. The president said that if a scheduled baseball strike were to happen later this month a lot of fans are going to be furious, 'and I'm one of them. (Larry Downing/Reuters)
