A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 07-31-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute
and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new
word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Today's Featured FReeper....
CounterCounterCulture!

This FReeper's "FR Birthday" is April 3, 1999,
and he claims to have been born under the sign...
******
Could that account for his brilliant and colorful personality?
I don't know, but he certainly is a multi-faceted FReeper!

When I asked him if I could spotlight him
on "FR's Finest", he shyly replied....
"I guess I have no choice now...sigh...ah heck,
who am I kidding. I LOVE THE ATTENTION!!!
Me me me me me!!! LOL!"
.....

When I asked him to send me a list of the FReeping
events he has attended, he sent me.....
THIS!
(Is that an impressive list, or what?!?)

When I asked him if he would like me to highlight
anything particular, this was his response ......
"Nothing much else really. Just to re-emphasize: ...."

*** Yes, ladies, I am still single and available ***

CounterCounterCulture has, among other things, set up many of the
1999/2000 primary and general election Presidential live debate threads,
as well as many of the 2000 Democrat Convention live threads.

The list of CCC's contributions to FreeRepublic is endless.
Here is just one of his many notorious posts:
* Welcome to the DNC 2000 Awards Show! *
Freepers Choice Awards Galore
(GOLDEN BWA-HA AWARD WINNER FOR PARODY OF THE WEEK)

CounterCounterCulture at his first official FReep,
December 5, 1998 - during Xlinton's impeachment.

For a peek into the fascinating mind of this FReeper,

Please help me salute our FReeper of the day.

If we are lucky, we might be able to coax him out of
his shell long enough to come to our thread and say hello. ;-)

After many years of illness, Ronald Reagan was very ill and it appeared that he might not pull through. Obviously, Nancy and the rest of the family were at his side, as well as the family minister.

Knowing that his time might be short, they asked if there was anything that he wanted.

"Yes," he replied, "I'd like very much to have Bill and Hillary Clinton at my side before I go."

They were all amazed at this request and several assumed that his memory was failing even worse than they had suspected. Regardless, they went ahead and forwarded his request to the former first family.

Within hours, the former president and first lady arrived at his bedside, courtesy of the loan of Air Force One. For a time, no one said anything.

Both Bill and Hillary were touched and flattered that Ron would ask them to be with him during his final moments.

They were also puzzled - obviously they were of different political parties and had thrown barbs in one another's direction over the years.

Why not George Bush Sr., G.W. Bush or some of Reagan's many Hollywood friends? He had never given the Clintons any indication that he particularly liked either of them.

Finally, Bill spoke up and asked, "Mr. President, why did you choose the two of us to be at your bedside at this critical moment?"

The former president mustered up some strength and said very weakly,

"Well....Jesus died between two thieves ... and that's how I want to go..."

A pastor's church was getting too large for him to cover all of the duties so he had a clone made of himself. All was going well, he could be in two hospitals at once praying for the sick, attend two meetings at the same time, this was his answer for his busy life.

Suddenly, the genes went crazy and the cloned preacher's personality changed. He started making passes towards women, yelling at drivers who cut him off, and making obscene gestors. This concerned the pastor so he and the clone took a day off and went to the Sears Tower, ate lunch, and enjoyed the view from the top.

While the clone was looking at the skyline through the telescope, the pastor pushed him over the side and that was the end of the clone. When the pastor left the building and walked past the crowd that had gathered, the police stopped him and placed him under arrest. "Under arrest"?? What's the charge?

Making an obscene clone fall.

TOTALLY TWISTED PROVERBS

A 4th grade teacher collected well known proverbs. She gave each child in the class the first half of the proverb, and asked them to come up with the rest. Here is what they came up with:

Better to be safe than punch a 5th grader
Strike while the bug is close.
It's always darkest before daylight savings time

Never underestimate the power of termites.
You can lead a horse to water but how?
Don't bite the hand that looks dirty.
No news is impossible.
A miss is as good as a Mr.

You can't teach an old dog math.
If you lie down with dogs, you will stink in the morning.
Love all, trust me.
The pen is mightier than the pigs
An idle mind is the best way to relax.

Where there is smoke, there's pollution.
Happy is the bride who gets all the presents.
A penny saved is not much.
Two is company, three's The Musketeers.
None are so blind as Helen Keller.

Children should be seen and not spanked or grounded.
If at first you don't succeed get new batteries.
You get out of something what you see pictured on the box.
When the blind lead the blind get out of the way.
Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and you have to blow your nose.

"I wonder which interstate?"

If I were guessing, Ma'am, I'd say Texas City!

Three contractors were visiting a tourist attraction on the same day. One was from New York, another from Texas, and the third from Florida.

At the end of the tour, the guard asked them what they did for a living. When they all replied that they were contractors, the guard said, "Hey, we need one of the rear fences redone. Why don't you guys take a look at it and give me a bid?" So, to the back fence they all went to check it out.

First to step up was the Florida contractor. He took out his tape measure and pencil, did some measuring and said, "Well I figure the job will run about $900. $400 for materials, $400 for my crew, and $100 profit for me."

Next was the Texas contractor. He also took out his tape measure and pencil, did some quick figuring and said, "Looks like I can do this job for $700. $300 for materials, $300 for my crew, and $100 profit for me."

Without so much as moving, the New York contractor said, "$2,700."

The guard, incredulous, looked at him and said, "You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?"

"Easy," he said. "$1,000 for me, $1,000 for you and we hire the guy from Texas."

A guy walks into the human resources department of a large company and hands the executive his application.

The executive begins to scan the sheet, and notices that the applicant has been fired from every job he has ever held.

"I must say," says the executive, "your work history is terrible. You've been fired from every job."

"Yes," says the man.

"Well," continues the executive, "there's not much positive in that."

"Hey!" says the guy as he pokes the application. "At least I'm not a quitter."

I'd say Texas City

More likely the Pasadena/La Porte area. Texas City doesn't have a highway configuration like that near their refineries. But it was an excellent guess!

I know I freepmailed you both but I would like to publicly say that this is a great thread today, Lori and Billie, your thread yesterday was great also (with special kudos to Dutchess, our new scanning wizard).

Could it be that we three are all here at the same time, live? It doesn't seem to happen often enough but it does happen...I know 'cauz our friend the St. has documented it before...

Chesty-Puller, SmartAleck, GRRRRR, AntiVenom, Carollann and myself made up the DC Six. We had the first report in on the "doings" that night, thanks to AV's expertise, Chesty's laptop, and good friends at Firetalk. It was a weekend to remember. I was Cinderella and went to the Ball, thanks to a wonderful group of friends. Fond memories!!
