A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

The
Accidental
Tourist
He's Everywhere! He's Everywhere!
Lowbridge
FReeper since 02-12-99
It's all Lowbridge's fault! All of a sudden, after 911, when that photo of him standing at the top of the Trade Center first appeared, we were seeing the Tourist Guy everywhere! Lowbridge, who is one of FR's most creative photo manipulators, began to insert Tourist Guy's photo in the most outlandish places. Soon he created a whole web site with this accidental tourist appearing in places one could only dream about!
One look at Lowbridge' Profile Page and I knew there was no way I could summarize in just two or three paragraphs his commitment to FReeRepublic, FReeRepublic-related activities and organizations, and FREEPERS in general! This New Yorker is almost like the Tourist Guy; he's everywhere, he's everywhere! I urge all of you to take a look at his profile page, check out some of his links, and also see some of the ways he's taken FReeper's heads and morphed them into movie posters and promos. Two of my personal favorites are pictured here. Click on the thumbnails to see them full-size.
A few things about our FReeper of the Day that I'd like to point out:
Lowbridge is a big supporter and promoter of AnnaZ and Mercuria's FR radio program UNSPUN the website. He organized and hosted the FReeper Bus Trip to Albany. He has created a parody of Democratic Underground. He is a chapter leader of the FRee Republic Second Amendment Task Force. Many of you met Lowbridge in Washington D.C. for the FReeper Inaugural Ball; he attended The anti-United Nations Rally last July, and in August, he got to spend some quality time with some of his favorite people in California. I would be remiss if I didn't include a link to that thread, where such good memories were made: California Memories
Thank you, Lowbridge! You ARE one of FR's Finest!

Billie,
Thanks so much for the wonderful tribute to Lowbie. Great job, and a very deserving candidate. You know, when he came out here to L.A. he brought each of his "angels" a dozen roses (and fabulous gifts for my boys). He is a true gentleman.
Lowbie,
You're my favorite headhunter and pimp-by-proxy EVER!

The teacher asked little Johnny if he knew his numbers.
"Yes," he said, "I do. My father taught me."
"Good. What comes after three?"
"Four," answers the boy.
"What comes after six?"
"Seven."
"Very good," says the teacher. "Your dad did a fine job.
What comes after ten?"
"A jack."

Two Babes In A Manger In 1994, two Americans answered an invitation from the Russian Department of Education to teach in Russia. They were invited to teach at many places including a large orphanage.
About 100 boys and girls who had been abandoned, abused, and left in the care of a government- run program were in the orphanage. The two Americans relate the following story in their own words:
It was nearing the holiday season, 1994, time for our orphans to hear, for the first time, the traditional story of Christmas. We told them about Mary and Joseph arriving in Bethlehem.
Finding no room in the inn, the couple went to a stable, where the Baby Jesus was born and placed in a manger. Throughout the story, the children and orphanage staff sat in amazement as they listened.
Some sat on the edges of their stools, trying to grasp every word.
Completing the story, we gave the children three small pieces of cardboard to make a crude manger. Each child was given a small paper square, cut from yellow napkins I had brought with me. No colored paper was available in the city.
Following instructions, the children tore the paper and carefully laid strips in the manger for straw.
Small squares of flannel, cut from a worn-out nightgown an American lady was throwing away as she left Russia, were used for the baby's blanket. A doll-like baby was cut from tan felt we had brought from the United States.
The orphans were busy assembling their manger as I walked among them to see if they needed any help.
All went well until I got to one table where little Misha sat. He looked to be about 6 years old and had finished his project.
As I looked at the little boy's manger, I was startled to see not one, but two babies in the manger. Quickly, I called for the translator to ask the lad why there were two babies in the manger.
Crossing his arms in front of him and looking at this completed manger scene, the child began to repeat the story very seriously.
For such a young boy, who had only heard the Christmas story once, he related the happenings accurately--until he came to the part where Mary put the Baby Jesus in the manger.
Then Misha started to ad-lib. He made up his own ending to the story as he said, "And when Maria laid the baby in the manger, Jesus looked at me and asked me if I had a place to stay.
I told him I have no mamma and I have no papa, so I don't have any place to stay.
Then Jesus told me I could stay with Him. But I told Him I couldn't, because I didn't have a gift to give Him like everybody else did.
But I wanted to stay with Jesus so much, so I thought about what I had that maybe I could use for a gift. I thought maybe if I kept Him warm, that would be a good gift.
So I asked Jesus, "If I keep You warm, will that be a good enough gift?" And Jesus told me, "If You keep me warm, that will be the best gift anybody ever gave me."
"So I got into the manger, and then Jesus looked at me and He told me I could stay with Him---for always."
As little Misha finished his story, his eyes brimmed full of tears that splashed down his little cheeks. Putting his hand over his face, his head dropped to the table and his shoulders shook as he sobbed and sobbed.
The little orphan had found Someone who would never abandon nor abuse him, Someone who would stay with him--FOR ALWAYS.
I've learned that it's not what you have in your life, but who you have in your life that counts.

Good afternoon! I'm getting prepared to receive a poodle that I'll be fostering* until she's adopted out, so I won't be around much today. I'll pop in from time to time -- can't help myself ;-)
Have a great day!
