USO Canteen FReeper Style....Childrens Art to our Troops....July 23,2002
FRiends of the USO Canteen FReeper Style and Snow Bunny

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family, friend of the family, neighbor, who served their country, take a brief moment of your day to thank them. Thank them for the sacrifice they made for the better good of their country.
We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper Style, are thankful for every service member in our military, who has served our great nation.
So, to the men and women who answered the call, in both times of war and peace, thank you.
.
Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many Freepers who post here, feel it too. It has been so dear how the Freepers kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place that had a huge living room for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me, saying that the Canteen is like home to them for the first time since they served.
This is your Canteen - a respite from our busy and sometimes troubling world. Make yourself at home.

Nice to see you, there is almost always someone around at theh Canteen. Sometimes a person can't sleep like you said too and they stop by or the East coast people are getting up pretty soon.
I have never done a thread about the letters from Children so this is the first time. Some are from last Christmas but they are so precious I included those too.

Hi Sweetness,
Took me a ton of time to get through those letters. Had to keep drying my eyes. Great intro M'Lady. Support from the homefront is the best thing that can happen to our patriots 'over there'.

The children's letters will be a good idea....imho...
Wouldn't it be something, if a soldier saw his/her own child's letter here?
Hey - it's a small world...it could happen!
Going to see what other threads are of interest, then turn in..... so, as I probably won't return here, tonight....take care. See you soon, Snow.

When you wake up, will you tell this puzzled FReeper:
~ You keep posting the same graphics, day after day after day. I've sampled it a few times, and it invariably takes five minutes to load. If it's a permanent welcome to veterans, couldn't you save some bandwidth and space for Jim Robinson by directing newcomers to add on to an existing thread? Updated, say, once per week?
~ What on earth would be part of such a thread that would be coming from an encrypted FEMA Website with its own security certificate? One that is missing an accurate internal name, for that matter? Such a security alert is a red flag, to me, from long experience. Again, this may be a threat to Jim Robinson's efforts.
~ Beyond all this, doesn't this entire enterprise far better belong in General Interest, rather than News/Activism? Do Jim's distinctions mean anything?
I suppose I am perplexed by just what kind of virtual-edifice complex is going on here. (Seeing, on this go-round, an 8th-grade kid asking a soldier to "kill Osama bin Laden for me" -- the loss of innocence is the dismaying cherry on the cake, really.)

Morning John, I can't believe I'm still awake. I think I'd better find my way to dreamland. Have a great day ahead.

The 8th grade kid seems to have a grasp of reality that not many can claim. I'm sure they saw with many of us the killing of fellow Americans on 9/11 and feels as though someone needs to answer for that.
As far as innocence goes, that was taken long before the knowledge of Osama bin Laden. The public school system as young as 2nd and 3rd grade is teaching our children about same sex relationships, our children are bombarded daily with raunchy programming on tv, music and every form of entertainment. There is nowhere they can go without being assaulted with material that challenges their innocence. Not to mention the leader of the previous administration making the conversation of "blowjobs" all day, every day commentary. To go further, we've gone through years of scool shootings. Yea I think this 8th grader has it right.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you,GB. Especially the last line about the child who wrote "Kill OBL". It is sad when our children loose their innocents and their childhood. Although, I go along woth the child's sentiments! Have a great doy and may God bless you today and always.
