**That old wind bag wrote an oped in our paper saying why doesnt the president use diplomacy in Iraq? This is tenure in the media world. You can't get rid of her--she has her chair. **

Well...maybe someone could loosen a chair leg...?

I've absolutely no problem with him going to Crawford in August, it's people's perception of him that worries me. The markets are tanking badly, trillions of dollars are being wiped out, people are losing their savings, I just don't think it's a good idea to leave town for a month

One very important characteristic that you've obviously missed about President Bush, is that he does nothing because of people's "perception" of him, so he's not going to stay in DC because of what he fears people might think of him, or fears losing a point or two in the polls (which IMO, is not going to happen).

I've read through your comments on O'Neil and his competency, and though I don't understand the details of what's going on (I'm a music teacher!), I do know that one of President Bush's other strengths is his ability to choose brilliant people to work with, and his ability to manage well. I choose to trust his MBA management skills, and prefer for him to have people around him whom he trusts, rather than people who have a better image in your eyes.

**Good news. Our moderate temperatures are over. We are heating things up for Helen. Hope to have a nice melted asphalt parking lot in Crawford where she can park her lawn chair. I don't do heat, but if I did I'd go out there and take pictures for all of us. **

LOL...I need to go find a picture of a Helen Lookalike in a lawn chair. I wonder if she wears knee Hi stockings...rolled just a bit. haha

Good morning, hsm and whoever else is still on the thread from out here on the Left Coast. What a picture I have of Helen with her knee hi's rolled down. I had an Aunt who used to do that. Also, how about rollers and a hairnet, along with a faded muu-muu.

I don't understand why they can't get rid of the old bag. Didn't the Sink Emperor kick Brit Hume out of the White House Press Corps back in '93 when Brit asked him if he was "zig-zagging" regarding the Attorney General job (remember the Zoe Baird-Kimba Wood fiasco)? Fox News just played that clip a couple of weeks ago.

rintense, thank you so much - terrific pix as usual. Our First Lady is looking great too! Haven't seen her nearly enough lately, except for the brouhaha about her dress at the State Dinner last week. (I didn't get a chance to post at the time, but I was also a "NO" vote on the blue sash. The rest of the dress was beautiful.)

Dubya doesn't vacation in Crawford. He simply changes the address in which he runs the country. Whoever started the crap of a presidential vaction ought to stand in the President's shoes. That man doesn't get a vacation.

Dittos, Kath. I wish they'd start calling the Crawford ranch the "Western White House", the way they used to with President Reagan's ranch.

AHH Maybe the Fox people won't complain I know other mainstream media folks I know for a fact they don't like Dubya hanging out in Crawford in August in that hot weather

Well, I know ONE Fox guy who most likely won't complain. Do you remember last year Wendell Goler was there with his Harley? Brit Hume featured him on his show, giving a tour of Crawford. I don't think Jim Angle will complain, either; he's just a good-natured guy. The weenies from NBC, SeeBs, CNN, etc., I'm sure will be whining the whole time they're there

Susan Estrogen. Tonight on Geraldo's show she was acting like she was just "teasing" about the President's vacation. What a bald-faced lie.

What did she say that she then said she had been teasing about?

There is a longer explanation of what is going on, from a wider perspective than just currency arbitrage, on the thread Taylor on US Markets and Gold. For example, on the declining dollar, the article describes Ron Paul's comments to Alan Greenspan on Capitol Hill this last week:

nullsumme - I think we are in the midst of a major avalanche - major tumbling markets and economies. Your criticisms of Paul O'Neil for not keeping life sweet for the currency arbitrageurs seem to me to be too narrowly focused. As if in a major avalanche in the Alps, one were criticizing one of the Park Rangers for not pushing back a little of the snow with his hand consistently enough, and maybe even not spinning a sufficiently believable story that the snow really isn't burying us.

I just hope this avalanche doesn't bury the Republicans this November, or Bush in 2004.

you realize the reason why they don't like Dubya hood in Texas is because nothing like Hamptons

I took your comment and turned it into a little joke.

"The reason the press doesn't like Dubya is because nothing Hamptons in August."

Although I can't picture Dubya saying profanity, even about Helen.

My local Democratic shill news organization, NBC affiliate for evening news, played a short tape of Bush recently in which he swore. He had tried two or three times (this part was glossed over) to give by phone a message of support to some group meeting to raise money for cancer research or something, and every time, he went through his whole schpiel and then was told that the audience had not heard it, and he not only was hot, he cussed. I could hardly believe my ears and eyes that the local news played it. I mean, here is the president doing a charity call-in to raise money to fight disease, and how many times was he supposed to have to say it? I don't condone the cussin', but I do understand his dismay with the broken-down and time-wasting process when he is such a busy man.

I don't really remember what Clinton did when Congress was in recess in the way of vacation

He used the mansions and estates of others to vacation in at various times of the year, which meant an enormous amount of work for the Secret Service to secure the site ahead of time.

Remember the little marriage-saving seclusion retreat he, hillary, and chelsea "used" after the Monica situation? He did that a lot.
