I gotta admit, on this issue I do come across as somewhat snobbish. I don't really mean to but whenever raw unadulterated emotion rears it's ugly head on this site, I get... well... righteous indignation.

Whew. I almost said "emotional."

Dogs are much smarter and I have a feeling they know what's going on around them.

Of course they do. In fact, one of the reasons they slaughter the dogs in front of other dogs awaiting the same fate is to terrify them. They think that makes the meat tastier too.

Needless to say, I am quite malevelant when it comes to animals.

I suspect you are.

However, you misspelled "malevolent," and you obviously have no idea what it means.

"Agree, cake, and I am as pro-life as they come. This story just sickens me. Any bets out there that this isn't Mr. Benoit's first run-in with the law?"

No bet on a less than 50/50 chance. He may already be in the habit of torturing those smaller and weaker than him.

Do you believe bestiality laws should be repealed?

I fail to understand why the senseless murder of the unborn -- deaths whose brutality boggles the mind -- doesn't work us up any longer the same way the senseless torture of some dumb animal does.

What makes you think that those who abhor the torture of animals don't equally abhor the murder and dismemberment of little babies?

I know for a fact that I abhor BOTH.

I believe most on this thread may be guilty of looking for the speck in their brothers eye while ignoring the plank in their own.

Pious claptrap.

I daresay no one on this thread has tortured a defenseless creature as this thug has done. We have every right to criticize his actions.

And your bizarre attitudes.

I don't think this necessarily leads to cruelty to humans but I do think the two can go hand in hand. If the person is just plain narcicistic as many are these days, it would allow them to be quite cruel to both animals and people.

I also have to admit that, although I consider animals just natural resources, I would have a hard time bringing myself to torture one just for the fun of it. That's a problem. But not a big enough problem to get the government involved, imo.

The torture of a defensless sentient animal brings that up in us.

sen·tient Pronunciation Key (snshnt, -sh-nt) adj.

1.Having sense perception; conscious: “The living knew themselves just sentient puppets on God's stage” (T.E. Lawrence).
2.Experiencing sensation or feeling.

Ok, I'll give you the second definition, but not the first.

Prov 12:10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

Matt 18:12. How think ye? if any man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go unto the mountains, and seek that which goeth astray?

John 10:
11. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd layeth down his life for the sheep.
12. He that is a hireling, and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, beholdeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf snatcheth them, and scattereth them:
13. he fleeth because he is a hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

"I don't believe in animal rights, and I do believe in hunting, and harvesting farm animals. But torturing or killing an animal for pleasure is indefensable. Anyone who has worked around animals know they do suffer when injured."

HEAR HEAR! I'm with you!!

Hubby and I don't consider ourselves "sportsmen" either...we hunt for food.

Psa:36v6
Thy righteousness [is] like the great mountains; thy judgments [are] a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast

Psa 104 –9-13
Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over;
that they turn not again to cover the earth.
He sendeth the springs into the valleys, [which] run among the hills.
They give drink to every beast of the field:
the wild asses quench their thirst.
By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation,
[which] sing among the branches.
He watereth the hills from his chambers:
the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works

In your heart do you believe God doesn't care about the animals

If the woman featured in this article had truly cared about the kitten, she'd have snapped its neck as she took it off the grill. I cannot imagine a more painful last day than having been burnt alive and force fed.

It is our obligation to make comfortable and feed human beings, not animals. Animals are DIFFERENT.

Once upon a time, we were sitting around the kitchen table at my grandparents' in Salina. A table at which I'd eaten venison and rabbit (perhaps squirrel) as a kid and from which you can see the backyard where my grandpa used to raise (and slaughter) his own chickens.

My Dad was telling the story of how he'd come home from the municipal pool on a bright sunny day and -- taking the last several steps of the basement stairs at one leap as was his practice -- landed square on the skull of a little white kitten they were keeping in the basement.

The kitten wasn't dead but clearly was suffering. My Dad either snapped its neck or shot it, I can't remember, but put it out of its misery immediately. As is the thing to do -- whether a million dollar race horse, prize pig or precious kitten that meets with misfortune somehow.

I burst into tears. The story was too much for my tender sensibilities and I had to run from the table to go cry my eyes out in the bathroom.

My grandma -- the Kansas housewife -- marched in after me and upbraided me in no uncertain terms. This was a mere animal, not some human being. How could it be I was reduced to maudlin tears over some stupid cat when -- for example -- the story of her own father's being scalded and burned to death by an explosion of hot tar certainly did not elicit such a response.

I was shamed to silence for being corrected thus. But I can assure you I stood there thinking she was cruel and heartless. "Counter-productive" to her cause, if you will.

Still, as it turns out, she was absolutely right. Hers was the trump card of Objective truth while all I held was rank emotion.

BTW, what's my profile got to do with it?

Just two points RobRoy...You seem to be the only one on this thread who minimizes the 'grilling of a kitten' by a group of sickos

In your profile you define yourself as a 'Christian' and I quoted you a passage which places your posts on this topic beyond WWJD/WWJS (What Would Jesus Do...What Would Jesus Say) I don't hink he would say what you have said

Next...Read my profile...I'm no PETA fan, but I would guess by your profile you have a history of talking loud from behind a keyboard....If you find cooking a kitten no big deal you are more than likely, IMHO, I --nad challenged also....

Agree.....
Seriously, when are we going to start giving these "types" long-term prison sentences or death. A civilized world has no room for these sickos...get rid of them!

"Excuse me, but how do you know that the posters here don't feel just as strong(if not moreso) about abortions?"

Right on. I'm pro life...and find being accused of being rabidly pro-choice out of hand like that as insulting as being lumped in with PETA because I think deliberate torture is a BAD thing.

It's ok.

I can't really say why. But I will say it's not an issue. 8^>

Thanks. (I think we're on the same page with this one)

Nearly all serial killers got started by torturing animals first.

Actually, they all started by being born. Fortunately, neither guarantees you will be a serial killer. 8^>
