[history]
In this war, not only the sons of the poor are enlisting.
Maybe he was thinking Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. Maybe it was visceral, not so much thought as felt, and acted upon. We don't know because he won't say, at least not in public. Which is itself unusual. Silence is the refuge of celebrities caught in scandal, not the usual response of those caught red-handed doing good.

I've always thought that the word "hero" being applied to athletes cheapend the word. Maybe Tillman might agree.

That is a bigger and better story than usually makes the front page. Markets rise and fall, politicians come and go, but that we still make Tillmans is headline news. Good point! Thanks John.

That is a bigger and better story than usually makes the front page. Markets rise and fall, politicians come and go, but that we still make Tillmans is headline news. Peggy always writes such positive pieces!

Tillman is an incredible man, and we're really proud of him. Peggy is right, no matter what happens with the economy, it's a point of pride that we are still making men like this.
After years of girly men, sensitivity training, and weak kneed whooses, I'm so glad to see real men being honored once again.

Some very talented young men, and women, are joining the armed forces in order to help their country because, apparently, they love it. ::wiping tears from eyes::
These young men are a national treasure...and so is Peggy Noonan.

Peggy Noonan is not only a great writer, she is a great thinker. A treasure, indeed.

 This article proves that.

Refreshing!

Great article. Warms the heart to know that there are young people out there that "get it".
And, (bonus) they get to be shot at, too!;o)
Thanks for the ping, JH2. I love reading Noonan...
almost as much as your 2cents.;o)

    Thanks John,
Some of America's finest young men and women serve. This article provides one, extraordinary example.
There are many, many other stories.
 Thanks

That is a bigger and better story than usually makes the front page. Markets rise and fall, politicians come and go, but that we still make Tillmans is headline news. i do not believe that we make tillmans.... i believe the character of men comes from within, from the creator. perhaps better said, is we are the greatest of societies to allow tillmans to happen.
