I've always thought that the word "hero" being applied to athletes cheapend the word. Maybe Tillman might agree.

I've always thought that the word "hero" being applied to athletes cheapend the word.

It's pretty pathetic when Tiger Woods is dubbed "courageous" for going for the green in two on a really long par-5, or a team is lionized for demonstrating "real character" in playing a game (which, after all, is their job), or a guy who crashes a car after driving around and around in circles attains legendary status, while men like Pat Tillman, those mentioned by Peggy Noonan and thousands of others who wear the uniform of our armed forces have become invisible and irrelevant to so many Americans.
