A Few of FR's Finest.....Every Day.....7-11-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

ONE OF FREE REPUBLIC'S FINEST

Utah Girl

Utah Girl has been a member of Free Republic since 3/27/01. She has become well known to many of us in that relatively short time. While her "home thread" is America The Right Way, she also post articles and contributes to threads in both Late Breaking News and General Interest. She is well read and well informed and imparts much information to all threads she visits. She is a long time contributor to the Guild Thread and provided many recipes for the Guild Cookie Exchange Thread and the Guild Thanksgiving Recipes. Currrently, she has been posting to the Elizabeth Smart Kidnapping Daily Thread where she comments on the local coverage and perspective of the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart in Salt Lake City Utah last month.

She is In The Spotlight today, as One of Free Republic's Finest, in recognition of the Daily Threads she posted and hosted during the Olympic Winter Games held in Salt Lake City in February 2002. She was our gal on the scene in Utah for the entire Olympic Games as well as for the pre-game hoopla and celebrations including the carrying of the torch and the preparations Utah underwent for these games. Hundreds of us, maybe even thousands, contributed and lurked on these threads. It was enriching and enlightening and provided us a place to vent, if necessary, especially during the Figure Skating Events. Lots of great photographs too and lots of laughs. .

Thanks Utah Girl. You are well liked and respected and are One of Free Republic's Finest.

Hi, Mr. SAINT...

Hi, sweet, 'who'. : )

A small girl replied, "Aren't those the sins we should have committed, but didn't?"

Cute! : )

Congratulations Utah Girl, it's a pleasure meeting you. I have seen you on the threads, here and there, but have never actually met you. FR is such a big place, so many threads, so little time. This daily thread gives us an opportunity to meet people and get to know a little about them. Thanks for all you do. :-)

Daisy, you did a great job with your post honoring Utah Girl. Both you and Billie are a hard act to follow. :-)

Hope you are keeping cool...The heat is getting to me - have drank a ton of water today and tried to stay inside but was not successful in that. I think I will have some iced tea today....Care to join me?

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church.
It was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it.
The seven-year-old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the boy and said quietly, "Good morning, Alex."
"Good morning, Pastor," replied the young man, still focused on the plaque. "Pastor McGhee, what is this?" Alex asked.
"Well, son, it's a memorial to all the men and women who have died in the service."
Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque.
Little Alex's voice was barely audible when he asked, "Which one, the 9:00 or the 10:30 service?"

Nice one Amy - thanks. I am so sorry that our friend did not know that she would be in the spotlight today.

when folks have jobs, and places other where to be, I think that they, and their schedule should be coordinated with the spotlight so as not to miss them. And vice versa.

When Daisy "did" me, at first I was so mortified that I wished the machine would just die and go away, but then I decided to be a good sport and have some fun with it. It was exhausting, trying to reply to each and every reply to the thread, but by day's end I realized once more what a wonderful place is FR, and how much my on-line patriot friends mean to me.

Utah Girl - CALL HOME! Soon please, JL

At Sunday School, they were teaching how God created everything, including human beings. Little Johnny, a child in the Kindergarten class, seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs.

Later in the week his mother noticed him lying down as though he were ill, and asked, "Johnny what is the matter?"

Little Johnny responded, "I have a pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife."

It's the Margaritas, Princess.

Kind of let 'that' slip your mind, eh? : )

A mother and baby camel are talking one day when the baby camel asks, "Mom why have I got these huge three toed feet?"

The mother replies, "Well son, when we trek across the desert your toes will help you to stay on top of the soft sand."

"OK," said the son. A few minutes later the son asks, "Mom, why have I got these great long eyelashes?"

"They are there to keep the sand out of your eyes on the trips through the desert."

"Thanks Mom," replies the son. After a short while, the son returns and asks, "Mom, why have I got these great big humps on my back?"

The mother, now a little impatient with the boy replies, "They are there to help us store water for our long treks across the desert, so we can go without drinking for long periods."

"That's great mom, so we have huge feet to stop us sinking, and long eyelashes to keep the sand from our eyes and these humps to store water, but Mom..."

"Yes son?"

"Why the heck are we in the San Diego zoo?"
