It will be up to historians to look back on the William Jefferson Blythe Clinton years in the White House and coin a phrase that epitomizes those eight long years. They were eight years when America, to a great extent, put aside it conscience and allowed a despicable human being to lead this nation and defile all that is decent and honorable.
For those historians, I will suggest my own, one that I believe is absolutely fitting -- The Decade of Stain.
On the basest level, Clinton literally did stain things -- the blue dress, the Great Seal, the sink, and probably the draperies and wallpaper. He is a man who has never left puberty and is still the same obsessive little boy he was in Arkansas. Everything is about him. We can see it in his refusal to leave the national stage as have other leaders.
On a deeper level and not literally with his DNA, he left a long-lasting stain on our institutions and on the psychophants with whom he surrounded himself.
He left his stain on those who otherwise might have been relatively decent and level-headed people. In the 1930s, Germans left behind their collective conscience and accepted that black was white and wrong was right. No, I am not comparing Clinton to Hitler, so drop it. What is being compared is the mindset of a nation. That comparison stands.
Sanity went out the window for those Democrats who would accept everything Clinton pulled. Along with the willing accomplices in the liberal press and television, they donned their kneepads and got down on their knees for him.
He left his stain on our judicial system. Before him, could anyone imagine finding acceptable that this officer of the court and our chief law enforcement officer committed perjury? That he knowingly allowed a false affidavit to be entered into the court record? That government personel were used to trash those who could testify against him? That he suborned perjury? That he conspired to fix a federal sexual harassment trial?
He left his stain on the National Organization for Women. They were on their kneepads from day one. With credibility already shaky as a radical organization of angry, ugly, man-hating lesbian weirdos, they lost any remaining ounce of credibility during the Clinton years. They would not call for the ouster of a man who abused women. Who used government assets and taxpayer dollars to satisfy his lust. Who gave sex for jobs. Who dropped his pants on a government employee at the workplace and during business hours to demand a sex act. Who audited those women who could bring him grief. Who assaulted a desperate woman in the White House whose family was collapsing and who needed a job. Who viciously bit and raped a woman who had worked on his first campaign for governor.
He left his stain on all the security agencies who are supposed to protect us -- the CIA, the FBI, and the NSA. It may be a few more years, but the Chinese Communists are going to pose a dangerous threat to the United States. His failure to guard our security and the wholesale transfer of our nuclear crown jewels will forever haunt our children and grandchildren.
He left his stain on foreign policy, a policy that has weakened our nation and led to the attack on September 11. Let's put it in real terms. Bill Clinton was more interested in BJs and covering his crimes than he was in defending this nation. He was the rock star president who talked about underwear on TV and who is the inspiration for oral sex among kids starting at about 11 years of age. Even those who support him know they could not trust him to be alone with their wives or daughters. He really is scum.
He left his stain on the military. He had contempt for honorable and brave men and women. He showed it in Mogadishu and virtually everyday of his presidency. He showed it when he wanted to use the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act of 1941 to try to stop the Paul Jones suit by claiming he was on active duty. He tried to feminize and "gay-ize" the military. Warriors had contempt for him and some of the wounded from Mogadishu refused to have their picture taken with him in the hospital. They would not be part of his sick photo-op and dishonor their uniforms.
The stain and the awful stench will be with us for some time. The stained sink has been removed. The carpeting has been removed. The draperies have been removed. The wallpaper has been removed. And they undoubtedly used nuclear strength detergent to clean the tile and wood floors. But the remants of stain are still with us. There are still those who believe he did nothing wrong. He just got caught in a sex lie. The stain on those fools remains.
Yes, the Decade of Stain. Many are aware that the full extent of the damage has not yet been felt. He ignored terrorism and a chance to have Bin Laden's head given to him on a plate. We can scrub everything he touched, but the stain of Bill Clinton will remain forever.
