As many of you may already know, Fellow Freeper Texana_RED's home was washed away in the devastating floods that are hitting Texas right now. Some of you may have seen video of a house in Kerrville floating downstream, then hitting a tree, and disintegrating. That was Texana_RED's home. Some of you may have seen an interview showing a woman on televison pointing to her red pickup truck which was lodged in a tree. That was Texana_RED. She literally got out with her pajamas, with 2 of her dogs. She lost the rest of her pets, and all the contents of her house, and workshop.
Some of you may have met Texana marching around the Governor's mansion after the election, or at the Freeper Inaugural Ball.
With Jim Robinson's gracious permission, I am being allowed to bring this Freeper in Distress Call to your attention. If you would like to send a donation to help, please check the Texas Chapter Board, or Freepmail Sockmonkey or Anymouse.

. . . It's YOUR MONEY they'll be offering you. You paid it in - you deserve to be able to take it out. THAT IS NOT WELFARE or anything like it Think of it this way too, Red, it's our money too, money that FReepers paid into through taxes . . . and maybe the only way some FReepers may be able to help you, through past money taxed........

Sorry about your predicament. Your attitude is incredible.
However, I disagree with you regarding you insurance. First of all, you did not lose your house to flooding waters. You lost your house because a TREE hit it and moved it downstream. PLEASE fight your insurance company for reimbursement based on the FACT that a TREE moved your house. If a tree fell on your house and demolished it you'd have insurance...well RED, that's exactly what happened. I'd fight them all the way to a jury, if need be and I bet you'd win. If you merely flooded, you'd still have your house. PLEASE file. This is no time to be stubborn regarding government, insurance handouts. Remember all those taxes you've paid.. well, it's time to collect some yourself. We have no problem paying our taxes for people in your situation.
I've been flooded (up to 5 ft) in Houston on three occasions. Homeowners insurance was rather generous on those things not covered by flood insurance, including fences, etc. Also, government loans are probably close to interest free or extremely low right now.
Several FReepers in the Austin area want to donate household stuff, clothes, blankets, etc. When will you be ready for it? I have a phone # and e-mail for you but don't know if any will reach you. e-mail @ Racey_Gracey@yahoo.com

After 9-11, Texana Red sent me some supplies to distribute to the workers at the WTC site.
She also sent me a jar of Texas Apple-Cactus Jelly. Mmm that was tasty.
I will help Red out.

Where is she staying in the mean time?

Thanks for the PING, Miss Gracey.
TexanaRED, I am so sorry to hear about your situation. But as always, FReepers are a special breed. Very resilient and willing to help others. Those qualities shine in you, even in this incredably difficult time. I tip my cowboy hat to you!
Dittos to what Gracey said about FEMA and the insurance company. Try any route you can to get help. This flood is such a devastating event - that's what FEMA and insurance are there for.
I'm an Arizona Freeper, but picked this past week of all weeks to come back to Texas and vacation in Bandera. It's crazy that I am so close to you but I can't get there from here. We are in a condo well above the Medina River, so we are high and dry, but stranded until the road into this place can be repaired. Looks like we'll be around for at least a few more days because the town of Bandera is in such bad shape.
ANYWAY, I'm keeping an eye on your situation and I've got the address. Will do what I can to help in some way.
God bless you, and I hope you'll be kayaking again real soon!!!

With the proper talent and some greedy general contractor not involved building a house is a pretty quick and simple thing. If this ever happens, count me in for any phone wiring (and phones for that matter - I get a good discount on them) that needs to be done. I also play at being an electrician's helper and can swing a hammer/operate power tools, usually without hitting my own thumb or severing something important.
Have toolbag, will travel.

The Guild is putting together shipments of household and personal items that you will be needing. If you would like to give us a list, we would appreciate it. We also need sizes for clothes and shoes. We will be sending those as well.
Also, if you could freepmail me the new address where these boxes can go and not sit in a post office, we will mail everything directly to you.
It is the least we can do.

Big question?
Are there any other Freepers that have lost their homes in this flooding?
