A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 06-29,30-02 Weekend

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

A Few of FR's Finest.....
Voices Silent, They Are Not Forgotten

1John - 02-01-02           CHIEF_Negotiator - 10-03-01

FreeRepublic Memorial Wall

These are only five of the FRiends who are no longer with us, but they are the only photos I had and the most recent. BCM and BKO, among the casualties of September 11th; Chief Negotiator, a tragic accident just weeks later; 1John, who is pictured in the very first veteran's group above; and CommiesOut, who passed away just last month.

I remember also BC Johnson, EdLinn, RR, OldAtlanta, heavyd, CaseyJay.....familiar names I used to see often on many threads. There are other names on the Memorial Wall some of you may remember: LoveUSA's father, Michael A. Marhevka; laissezfirearm, and JMIRACLE.

This weekend's thread is dedicated to the memory of these dear friends. I hope you will take a few minutes and visit the Memorial Wall and read some of the tributes that are linked to each name. The Wall is a beautiful tribute, created and maintained by Mr_Magoo, "for all of those whose voices have been silenced."

"Rest in Peace, Dear Friends, we will carry the Torch of Freedom in Your Memory."

Fried Shrimp, anyone?

You're in luck my good man. ;-) Fried shrimp loaded up, and good to go.

The ditzy tourist had one of those big bird's nest massive "how-do-she" (She doesn't as it would mess up her hair..) hairdos with much too much spray, mostly gray, with some blue overtones. Mighta been a blond once, but it had apparently been dyed so many times, no tellling what the original color way. She had come ashore from one of those humongus floating sardine cans called a cruise ship, the kind where you see hundreds of them exiting at once like geriatric zombied ants. My autograph apparently made her day.

Chow time! Uhmmm...Not meaning to be rude, but before I dig in...are they deveined? If not I'll help clean 'em and wait on the next batch to be fried up. I've spent a considerable amount of time at the sink with a fork on shrimp. It's well worth it.
I love seafood. Preparation is key.

Thanks for the raincheck whoever.

Speaking of dogs-------

DOG DUTIES

Is your dog a pampered pet?

Does he eat better than you?

Does he sit on your furniture?

Does he have the run of the house?

In days gone by dogs earned their keep.

Here are some suggestions to make your dog a useful member of your household.

Put him to work digging up your garden in the spring.

Make him fetch your mail and keep nosy neighbors away.

He can do dangerous work so you don't have to!

Or just give him general guard duty.

Send him out to check the weather.

Or make him help you cook the roast nice and slow for hours on that awful dog-torturing machine from the Middle Ages: the spit and treadmill!

But whatever you do, get him off that sofa, quit feeding him that gourmet food, and make him earn his keep, and then some!

Sincerely,
The CAT

Shoot the dog and drown the cat,
Aquarium fish is where it's at.

Just being facetious. I've never had to shoot any of our dogs, they seem to get run over by cars or just run off, and I've never owned any cats to begin with.

BUT FIRST...

BUT FIRST...first begins to manifest itself in the very young.

You will often hear them utter the words ... Yeah, But...

This is especially noticed in small children when confronted with an obvious wrong-doing.

It reaches epidemic proportions during the teenage years. If not corrected early with acceptance of ones responsibilities, the child and teenager will grow into whinning liberal adults or worse yet, a politician.

The stolen shrimp appear to me to be both de-veined and butterflied, and maybe beer battered - I'm hoping now.

Like a painting chore, the prep time with shrimp is the most important. A lady from India clued me into the importance of husking them, prior to cooking and recommended to me
this handy dandy shelling de-veining tool .

One health note, the "vein" of the shrimp contains all sorts of healthy sea-found benefits, but at the cost of a bit of grit to the palate. That's why of late, we've been using the farm raised Tiger Shrimp whose farmers allow them a few days to cleanse themselves prior to market. No vein, easily peeled, boil, chill, enjoy. Voila

Do you chill the farm raised shrimp in salt water for a few hours first?

I find it improves the flavour. And I do love shrimp.

Excellent! >>>ignoring good manners, talking with a shrimp in the mouth<<<
>>>swallow<<<
BTW...You can do the same job with a fork as you can with that deveining tool and you don't have to go buy one seperately. Just use an outside tine.
Purged shrimp are okay, but I'd rather make sure though.
Purged crawfish are a must!

I've not tried that method...yet. All the stuff we get here in Centex is "previously frozen" due to logistics. However we do have a large regional grocer HEB who is good enough to have knocked out Safeway, Piggley Wiggley, A & P, and just about everyone else - they sell good stuff at great prices.

I do not work for them, but I appreciate good business people.

What the devil was I talking about?

Oh yeah. Do you mean to soak the shrimp after they've been boiled?

After I've shelled them, into the boiling water, with cayanne pepper and other seasonings and a couple drops of olive oil, they go.

Just before I think they're done, about 1/3 knotted, I dump'em into a collander with cold running water. After a minute or so of this - off they go into the freezer to drop down the temp as quickly as I know how. Are you guys on the Food Network? You know lottsa tricks.
