Couric Slanders Coulter as 'Right-Wing Tele-bimbo'

NBC "Today Show" host Katie Couric wasted no time slandering author Ann Coulter during a Wednesday morning interview about her new book, "Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right," by introducing the renowned conservative legal scholar as a "right-wing tele-bimbo."

"You've been called everything from a pundit extraordinaire to a right-wing tele-bimbo," began Couric, setting the stage for the contentious encounter.

Within the first few sentences of their exchange, Couric broached the topic of Coulter's recent comparison of her to Hitler's Nazi paramour.

COURIC: I have to bring up a section of the book where you talk specifically about me. And this is not where you call me the "Eva Braun of liberalism," which I'll ask you about.

COULTER: The "affable" (Eva Braun of liberalism).

COURIC: Thanks, that makes me feel so much better. (End of Excerpt)

The encounter grew heated when Couric accused Coulter of taking her description of President Reagan as "an airhead" out of context, saying she was merely quoting Reagan biographer Edmund Morris.

COURIC: You used me as an example of liberal bias against Ronald Reagan and I'm just curious as to why you took it so out of context?

COULTER: Well, I don't think I did. You're taking it out of context.

COURIC: No.....

COULTER: What I said, was - which is true - that the "Today Show" opened, I believe that it was three days in a row, with the announcement, "Ronald Reagan was an airhead. That's the conclusion of this newbook by Edmund Morris." When Edmund Morris came on with you he described that as a grossly unfair characterization of his point. (End of Excerpt)

Couric proceeded to read the direct quote from Morris' book, which Coulter then put in context, explaining that the observation was made after Morris' initial encounter with Reagan "and that the entire course of the rest of his book was contradicting that."

The exchange grew heated once again:

COULTER: So for the "Today Show" to be opening three days in a row (with) "Ronald Reagan was an airhead," I'm sorry, that's dishonest.

COURIC: And also, just for your information, it was just one day.

COULTER: No, you said it one day. Matt Lauer said it another day.

COURIC: No, it was just one day and we'll get the transcript for you. But anyway....

COULTER: ...By the way, my book is not only solely not about this quote. It is not solely about the "Today Show."

COURIC: Well, Let's move on then.

COULTER: Over Ronald Reagan's (Crosstalk)......

COURIC: Let's just talk about the religious right, actually, since I'm conducting this interview. (End of Excerpt)

The "Today Show" diva turned to topics like Rev. Jerry Falwell's controversial comments in the wake of 9-11, and made repeated references to Coulter getting "fired" from NationalReviewOnline for her own controversial 9-11 commentary.

"That also isn't quite true," Coulter fired back. "I mean, I write a syndicated column. I write for Human Events. That's the newspaper that hired me. People buy the syndicated column. (NRO) dropped the column."

At the end of the showdown, both the perpetually smiling Couric and the irrepressible Coulter were still standing.

"Well, Ann Coulter, it's always interesting to talk to you to say the least," Couric concluded.

I will never tune in to nbc again -- not even to watch a smart Conservative person like Ann; it was just too much like hell to have to bear all the liberal leftism and shellacked ickyness while I forever waited for Ann to appear. I switched the channel between FOXNEWS and nbc at least a thousand times since 7 a.m. this morning while I waited! NOTE TO ANN: please give us the heads up as far as what time segment next time. Also, you should have used more words that that colic woman would have to look up after her shift ends.

katie colic is a laugh; people like her will never get it. Notice how colic started off with the liberal's choice MO -- name calling and smearing by innuendo. At least Ann got colic pissed by the end of the interview! He he! Actually, it wasn't an interview. It was a teaching session with Ann as the teacher and that colic woman as the stupid goofy mindnumbed child that will never, ever learn.

At first glance, I should tell you to run back to DU, but unfortunately, you have a point about reliability when it comes to NewsMax. However, when it comes to conservative news, NewsMax can generally be counted on to give the straight skinny.

What Carl Limbacher and his people do for us is to present the news in an unabashedly conservative fashion, with a conservative interpretation of events.

They do not try to hide behind the conventions of "objectivity" as do Couric, Matt Lauer, or Dan Rather. Bottom line? With NewsMax, one knows that one is getting the Conservative side of the story (as with FOX, btw). With the Networks and the other cable outfits, one does not know where the news stops and the propaganda starts.

I don't think it's bad for Playboy models to be leggy -- or even for actresses, singers, and other entertainers.

But I don't like that TV political analysis and punditry is dominated by talking hairdos and bimbos and pretty boys.

Florence King, Ayn Rand, and Camile Paglia are three women, all brainier and better writers than Coulter, who couldn't compete on TV today even if they wanted to (or were still alive).

Coulter is feted for her looks, not her brains or writing (which are okay, but nothing unique or especially brilliant).

I've come to the conclusion that you don't like Ann Coulter.

Not that it really matters what conclusion you have come to about me but...

I like Ann Coulter a lot. As a matter of fact, I have a printed copy of an exerpt from her book in my pocket right now. Gonna read it at lunch...Can't wait.

But...

She's not anywhere NEAR as good looking as the Free Republically Correct around here claim. Not to bash her but her body literally reminds me of Olive Oil. She's marginally good looking at best. Her face is fairly attractive but that body....Well....YUCK!!

And she's sometimes (Too much for my tastes) an embarrassment on television. She's a WONDERFUL read though.

and as for NewsMax.com...The best thing I can say about them is that they are not as big of a joke as WorldNetDaily.com.

I also bought Ann's book last night. I think, whatever the assesment of the interview, the fact that it was held was significant and will promote the book. The middle of the road viewer, normaly uninterested in politics, may buy it and become informed.

These pics pretty much represent what happened on the TODAY show this morning between Ann & Katie. Ms. Couric was well prepared for the interview, and got a little rude to Ann, IMO. I give props to Katie for doing the interview and bringing up the Eva Braun comment by Ann. On points, I think Ann could have done a better job.

But here is the thing about the whole interview: Ann should have said that the tone of the entire interview proves her point that the media is biased against conservatives.

And I have never said this about any woman - but ann needs to gain about 30 pounds. She looks anorexic - the most skinny I have ever seen her. Too skinny to be hot. Unless you dig that emaciated, Ethiopian/starving look.
