Report from Front Lines: Visit to Sierra Club Office

Hubby just called to report on his visit to the local Sierra Club office in Phoenix.

He had tried calling many times yesterday, and couldn't get through on the phone lines.

Their office front doors were locked--he kept knocking and knocking until they gave up and let him in (LOL). The office window shades were drawn, and they obviously wanted everyone to think they were closed.

The woman who runs the office is one PISSED OFF bull dyke(not making this up). She was extremely angry that he was "bothering" them. She said she was "too busy" and "didn't have time to talk to people like him."

He asked her how many lawyers the Sierra Club employed, and she refused to answer. He asked her what the Sierra Club was doing to help put out the fires and she said "that's none of your business.". He asked her how much federal (taxpayer) grant money the Sierra Club got this year; she said "I don't have to answer that question."

There was a young man in the office who was actually polite and willing to talk to my hysband, but the B.D. was an absolute b*tch.

While hubby was in the office, the B.D. was replaying recorded phone messages left for them by angry callers. Hubby overhead three of the messages. All three were from enraged refugees of the fire who left f-word-peppered messages. One man (said he lost his home in the fire) said he was going to get even with them, he had a gun, and he'd take his time to get even. The BD was taking notes and muttering about filing police reports.

While I don't support anyone threatening violence on the Sierra Club, I can certainly understand how some of the displaced residents could be completely enraged at this point.

Frankly, I'm glad Governor Hull set off a firestorm criticizing enviro-wacko groups and how their lawsuits have paralyzed the Forest Service in general. The dialogue that's ensuing is a good thing.

President Bush made some remarks to some of those evacuated from these fires. He got a rousing ovation when he said that something needs to be done about the policies that allow this sort of thing to happen

They just replayed Bush's address to the people of Show Low on Fox. Rousing ovation indeed. I'll bet we'll see it more than one place on this evening's news.

Maybe this incident will be the spark that lights the flame that finally burns down the "House that Gore and the Greenies Built".

The Sierra Club answers those who lay the blame on the environmentalists. From Forest Fires, Beyond the Heat and Hype on the Sierra Club web site:

"Logging interests and pro-business federal agencies claim that we need to destroy our wild forests to help prevent dangerous forest fires. In fact, the reverse is true: logging has been shown to multiply the risk of catastrophic forest fires. That's because timber companies cut down the largest trees, which are the most resistant to fire, leaving behind flammable smaller trees and piles of debris. As this report shows, we need to protect, not log, our national forests - now more than ever."

You should go to the Sierra Club web site and read a little of their "explanation" of why the fires are made worse by the big logging companies. Oh yes, I'm not kidding. They say that the loggers just chop down the biggest trees which are more resistant to fire and leave the little ones and debris all over. It's really amazing. I could only read so much of that crap before I had to bail out for my own health. Those wackos are just amazing. And dangerous.

Yes, the Sierra Club's position is that logging in general, salvage logging (i.e. picking up wood that falls on the ground) AND roads in general create more and worse forest fires. It's all in their position paper on fores fires on their web site.

Of course, there are ZERO citations of studies or data to substantiate these B.S. claims. (And I'd be very skeptical of any "study" done by a Clymer academic or other leftie "think tank," anyway).

The Southwest Forest Alliance out of Albuquerque, NM are the real wackos.

Couple of years ago where I live, the Forest Service wanted to thin "tracts" as an experimental project. The Sierra Club sat down with the Forest Service and came up with the plan, only to have these jerks from NM file a lawsuit that stopped it.

The same people threatened to sue the ADOT because the DOT was wanted to widen a road. FIVE trees would have needed to be taken down. The SWFA threatened a lawsuit. The plans to widen the road were dropped.

These people are *truly* dangerous nuts. They aren't as visible as the Sierra Club (yet) but far, far more unreasonable.

Hubby's purpose:

(1) To ask them what they are doing to help put out the fires or assist in helping the refugees. They refused to answer the question (in other words, they're doing NOTHING)

(2)To ask them about the report on their web site which specificallys states that logging, salvage logging, and roads cause more and more severe forest fires. (the document included ZERO references to substantiate those claims). They had no explanation for the lack of references or data.

(3) To ask them what kind of federal grant money they've received lately. (In other words, exactly where are my tax dollars going.....) They told him that was none of his business. (4) Because he tried calling repeatedly, couldn't get through on the phone line for hours, and when he did get through was told "We don't have time to talk to people like you." (CLICK).
