As July 4 approaches, people are hunkering down, waiting for the terrorists to strike, whether with nerve gas in the subways, fuel trucks plowing into synagogues, bombs carried in kayaks, or assaults by fighters swimming to their targets in scuba suits. "They could hit us any day," Richard Shelby, the ranking Republican on the Senate intelligence committee, tells the nation.
According to various recent reports, over the past two months perhaps as many as 25 terrorists have slipped into the U.S. as stowaways. Osama bin Laden himself was reportedly last seen in April in northeastern Afghanistan, and is expected to release another of his tapes before the holiday. There have been numerous warnings about dirty bombs and weapons of mass destruction.
But the damage could come in the form of a much more conventional attack. An e-mail recently making the rounds of military and law enforcement circles describes a captured Al Qaeda training tape said to reveal the group's expertise in small arms and close commando situations in urban settings like New York, Washington, and Chicago. The people seen training are skilled at handling rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, and at making quick attacks and retreats. The footage may be fake, although the people sending the tape around are military veterans with extensive combat experience.
One scenario involves ambushing cops. An apparently disabled vehicle is parked just before a freeway ramp, with shooters hidden inside. When the police officer pulls up, someone inside blows the horn and the shooters burst out firing. Then there's the residential assassination, where someone knocks on the door of a home, then empties his gun into whoever answers. There's also the golf-course assassination, where an RPG-type rocket is lobbed onto a golf green, taking out the security vehicle and leaving the golfers to be mowed down by rifle fire.
In other scenarios, terrorists rappel down the side of a building from the roof, move through tunnels or sewers, carry out drive-by kidnappings, and blow up guard houses to get into the main building lying behind. Drive-by killings can be executed on motorcycles, with the shooter standing on rear pegs with arms extended over the driver, firing as the bike races down the street.
For bigger raids, terrorists carry concealed weapons into a building, say a school or a financial institution, then in a swift show of violence take over the room, marching people up to the roof. TV reporters and photojournalists are allowed in. The kidnappers then begin to execute prisoners one by one in front of the cameras. The tape suggests planning several simultaneous raids to gain maximum exposure. The key point is that absolutely no one is left alivemen, women, children, all are killed.
In advice to law enforcement, one analyst of this training tape urges cops to begin shooting as soon as they recognize what's going on, and not to wait for any SWAT team or other support. Complying at any point is useless, since everyone will be ritually executed on the roof.
Yeah, notice that cities like Philadelphia (PA is a "shall issue" state) are not included in the list
If we start getting Muslims shooting people in the streets, or staging homicide bombings like in Israel, expect Muslims to get REAL unpopular here.
Ater all, according to the liberals, it is all our fault.
Wanna bet it'll happen in a community where firearm ownership is frowned upon?
I have actually been expecting this for some time.
An Al Qaeda strategy of urban terrorism would have greater long term benefits for them than the Spectacular. A corrosive urban terrorist campaign has already proven to have benefits against a civilian population in Israel. What the Al Qaeda have yet to understand is that people will arm themselves. There is a reason the Second Amendment exists. I suspect that our liberal friends are about to get a lesson in the futility of gun grabbing in an age of terror.
Getting reinforcements here is much more difficult than it is in the West Bank; it's just plain geography. So we actually have them at a disadvantage, here. We can take a leaf out of Chairman Mao's book and fight People's War.
There is no way the "guerilla" can survive in a hostile environment for long. According to Mao and others, he must be "like a fish in the sea".
I think we are about to find out just how many "illegal" firearms there are in New York and Washington.
L.A. hasn't been hit yet, however. Berkeley and Ithaca, NY? Please. From your lips to God's ears.

PC is on its last legs. The minute you see liberal Jews up in arms about Palestinian terrorism, then you know the game is almost up.
The Jews understand what the Gentiles have yet to figure out. It can happen here. September 11th was not enough for the liberals to understand that no, this is not about a sense of Arab "grievance". It's about Arab barbarism that seeks to kill us or convert us to Islam. When Al Qaeda starts hitting the shopping malls here at home, people like Noam Chomsky are going to become really isolated intellectually.
When the Liberals become afraid, that's when Sarah Brady needs to get a new line of work.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
Wouldn't it be interesting to listen to Richard Gere if the terrorists targeted say, Hollywood? But I am afraid that even if the terorists did hit places like Berkely and Massachusetts, the remaining liberals would find a way to blame it on us right-wingers. It would be "our" fault, somehow. We antagonized the terrorists somehow, or made them envious, put crosses on our churches, or some such nonsense. parsy.
I disagree. People do have a sense of self-preservation about them. It is okay to think, if one is a liberal, that one must address the concerns of terrorists in the abstract if terrorism is somthing that is happening "over there". But when it happens to a crowd at a Fourth of July picnic, or to a bus full of school kids in Peoria, or to a wedding party in Paramus, NJ, that's when the liberals run out of excuses.
Boy, to be a gun shop owner in this time!
And to think, the Toon almost ran gun shops out of business.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
I'm still surprised it hasn't happened yet. I was actually expecting this for the Christmas shopping season. I was also expecting something to happen here in the Land of The Mouse, since IIRC Disney doesn't allow concealed-carry on their property, even though FL is a CCW state. In either scenario, the terrorists will have sitting ducks as targets, and the economic impact alone of such an attempt would make it worth it. Logistically and tactically simple in comparison to hijacking an airliner, and the effect would be huge.
The fact that something like this hasn't happened yet leads me to believe that these guys aren't too bright, and that I have more to fear from Washington DC overreacting and making power grabs than from any terrorist.
I really wish that would happen, but in reality, if this happens, she'll have her way, and then some.
Something like this would be the kiss of death for the 2nd Amendment. And they'd be soldiers and cameras and roadblocks and checkpoints in all public places.
This is just one of a number of similar stories in NYC. Only one I know of made the news. Earlier this year a "mid-east" type was spotted by a radio car patrol riding his bicycle near the Throggs Neck Bridge in the Bronx. An Uzi was sticking out of a backpack that also contained grenades. This was, as I said, in the news. But, it dropped off the screen almost immediately.
Two well armed attackers could blast their way onto the floor of the NYSE and do serious damage in no time. One well armed guy could kill dozens in Penn Station or Grand Central at rush hour in minutes. One car at each end of the Lincoln Tunnel with armed men inside could cose the tunnel down and trap hundreds with no way out.
I do worry about that. Some poor innocent Sikh is very likely to find his mandatory headwrap in a few crosshairs, and he ain't the problem.
Most of the pros won't be machine-gunning anybody; a professional gets others to do his dying for him. Anyone young and pumped-up enough to try this kind of stuff is far more likely to be found on sundry college campuses and in jails.
RW, I won't really be looking for turbans, that was just a turn of phrase. I'll be looking for muzzle flashes and stuff zinging through the air my direction. Those are some of the classic warning signs that your day is not going to be a good one...
Whether it zips, zings, buzzes, or whooshes, maybe they'll all come out at once and go down in a blaze of glory. It might restore a measure of honor to their names, although certainly not enough to balance their attacks on undefended children and families.
Most people who can't think logically do so because they attempt to extrapolate facts to fit with their preconcieved notions. Take your comments above, for instance.
China is a Communist country. It is athiestic by law, yet you think that China will unleash its 18 ICBM's on the U.S. if we nuke an Islamic holy city.
Russia is literally at war with Muslims in Chechnya, yet you think that Russia will nuke the largest market for its oil (Russia is OPEC's largest oil competitor, too), the U.S., if we nuke a Muslim city.
Your preconceived notion is clearly that any use of nukes brings upon the end of the world. You are obviously trying to fit "facts" such as Russia and China nuking us into that preconceived (and obviously erroneous) worldview.
That's why some people can't think logically. Your post served as a perfect example of that very thing. You probably find yourself confused by the events of the world everyday, too. There's just no way that your worldview can explain the actions of various players, thus, either you ignore current events or else you find yourself constantly having to find new ways to justify your worldview (and that confuses people).
Good luck.
Agreed, and this type of article just pi$$es them off.
The worst thing that could happen to the Islamic cause is to start this stuff here.
The resultant outrage would make the WWII roundup of Japanese Americans look like a 4-H picnic.
Stay safe everyone and have a great 4th of July! I'm back to my lurking status. :D
