CHICAGO (Reuters) - Every year there's a new one: Most livable U.S. city, friendliest city, town with the best manners. Now comes the first annual sweatiest city award.
Top honors go to San Antonio, Texas.
On a typical summer day, San Antonio residents lose more than 1 liter of perspiration per hour during exercise such as walking, the announcement said.
Dallas-Ft. Worth, New Orleans, Houston and West Palm Beach, Florida, fleshed out the top five sweatiest cities.
The list was released on Thursday by Procter & Gamble's Old Spice Red Zone deodorant, apparently in a sweat to produce some first-day-of-summer publicity.
It was based, the announcement said, on the average high temperature and humidity during June, July and August in the 50 cities reviewed. Based on this the company estimated the sweat produced by walking one hour each day.
"Although some view sweat as embarrassing, it is necessary to keep the body cool," said Mark Davis, described as a perspiration expert for Old Spice, which said it is sending the mayor of San Antonio a case of its Red Zone.
The five least sweaty cities were in order: Barrow, Alaska, San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego and Los Angeles.

In new orleans, I really can't drink enough water and gatorade during the summer. They serve water and gatorade in New Orleans?

I remember one summer where my A/C was broke and it was 100 degrees. I got absolutely hammered and was completely dehrdrated. I decided to sleep in the pool.

I decided to sleep in the pool. That could be dangerous...

I think Procter & Gamble's marketing people ate a few too many peppers at El Mercado and thought it was the city that made them so sweaty. It is plenty hot all over Texas but add 98% humidity to a 98* day and you have New Orleans.

Oh, come on. Texas can not compete with areas of extremely high humidity like Florida, Louisiana or Mississippi.
You must be thinking of west TX. I lived in El Paso years back and have seen a few 110 degree days. Although that isn't exactly a winter wonderland, I'd take that any day over the oppressive heat/humidity of east TX. Just a few years ago, I flew from San Fran to Houston in the middle of November. Even that late in the year, it felt as if I had walked into a sauna as I was leaving the airport.

Yes, another poster pointed out that Houston, which is on the Gulf Coast, has similar weather as Florida and Mississippi. I was thinking more of north and west Texas. The only reason I would ever live up north would be during summers in Florida ;-)

Rush, now we know the answer to that infamous question "WhyisaTexasgirlinPA?". ROFL........see, I told you.........lol

add 98% humidity to a 98* day and you have New Orleans ......and Shreveport. That is the weather from May to the first blissful cold front in October here. High 90s with 95-100% humidity is common here.

Montgomery, Alabama Heat & Humidity bump!

"I will guarantee anyone that when you step out of a car in San Antonio at 100 degrees it is hot, but nothing compared to Houston and New Orleans." ....and Mobile. Last week it was 97 degrees and 98 % humidity on a clear day.

Houston trumps San Antonio and Dallas as the hottest when humidity is included. The hill country can actually be quite pleasant on a summer evening.
I grew up in the Houston area without air conditioning and have also lived in the northeast (NJ, MA). I would take Houston weather any day over frigid northern winters and springs that would never come. Winters are pretty tolerable in Houston by comparison. Weather was one of the reasons I moved back to Houston and so many Yankees move south when they retire.

I can believe it. When we were stationed in the Azores, Portugal, we had
some major humidity. (The Azores are 900 miles off the coast of Portugal - a
group of 9 small islands). The island we were on was 10x18 miles, the third.
largest. It rarely got above 85 degrees in the summer (or below 45-50 in the winter), but it was ALWAYS humid, and I remember taking COLD showers
to cool off and before I could towel off, I was perspiring already. Yuck !

What an honor Well, what do people expect when the temperature in Dallas is 100 degrees and the humidity is 99%. Ozone alert: The ozone level in the Dallas area has surpassed the total count of ragweed, mountain cedar, and bovine flatulation combined.
And you think you got problems!!

I've been to Atlanta, and I'll tell you what, that is NOT a dry heat.
To: Charge Carrier
It was like that in Beavercreek, Ohio, one night -- at midnight it was 98 Degrees and 98% humidity! Our heat pump didn't seem to be able to handle it so I took my young daughter at the time and went to sleep in the lower level which was cooler.
They definitely could not have factored in humidity!

I can imagine! That sounds horrible! Yuck is right! High Humidity and hot weather can make you absolutely miserable.

I think there was an episode of the CHEERS TV show where the people at the bar were arguing about what was the Sweatiest movie of all time....I think they may have decided it was Spartacus or Cool Hand Luke.
To: Cagey
Here in Des Moines, I wish I could lose the perspiration...instead, it just hangs around.
