This is taking money out of the hands of the feds and giving it to the locals.
To: Dane
Does that mean that you will demand that "conservative" GI's (or their descendants) give back their houses for the good of the conservative cause?
That was then, this is now. Get with the program.

Ben, is the money going back to who sent it to Washington in the first place? So what you are saying is you don't mind redistribution of wealth right?

I'm happy Bush is investing in broadening the Republican party for the future. I'll bet homeowners are more Republican than Democrat!!
I agree with you 1000%. Only idiots can't see it.

Actually, he discovered that the unappeasables have never done anything useful for the GOP, never turned up in numbers necessary for victory, and talked a great deal of trash in place of generating actual results. ...or maybe he has found out that the electorate s*cks.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development said barriers to minority home ownership range from inability to scrape together a down payment to lack of understanding about the home buying process to ``continued housing discrimination.''... range from inability to scrape together a down payment ...
Lots of white folks can't do it either, are they simply SOL here, Mr. Bush?
... lack of understanding about the home buying process ...
Common problem with ANY first-time home buyer, which is why they have people at banks, credit unions, mortgage companies, finance centers, etc., etc., etc., whose job it is to explain and assist. The Fed needs to now do this for minorities instead because, Mr. Bush??
``continued housing discrimination.''
Just how long are we to endure this "level the playing field" thing? It's not governmental-racism to deny me (white) the opportunities that you constantly afford minorities? Why haven't all those myriad laws passed against discrimination punished the people you say are still practicing, instead of creating yet another federal program??

OK, but you're going to have problems convincing me otherwise. I get nervous when governments spend money on anything except guns and bombs - at least with guns and bombs we can kill the enemy. Social spending just creates pressure groups, socialists and welfare junkies and thus is a product of hell.,,, guns and bombs are great Ivan, I like them too but governments have many roles to play. Some roles determine at home security for their citizens. A dream come true government works itself out of responsibiliies thru implementation of good policies - noticed many good governments or policies lately? Nah, neither have I.
The level of immigration in the US mushroomed under Billy-Jeff's reign. These immigrants won't be going away and they will become a problem underclass if left unchecked. Bush has made notable efforts to align policies with hispanic voters. Call it socialism or call it wisdom, someone has to pick up the tab to move these new Americans forward. I'm not saying it's right but it won't get any better if it's ignored.
To: Dane
My point was, every person that is against this silly redistribution of tax dollars to provide minorities with homeownership would probably have had a problem with the GI Bill too. I'll make myself more clear in the future.

reward for not saving money, destroying your credit, not being educated, and not being White
We've been rewarding people for this for years by welfare, medicaid, ssi, wic, EITC, rent subsidies, etc, etc, etc,. At least there is a little bit of responsibility and risk to the recipients with this one. I don't see this as an ADDITIONAL program in the long run, but a REPLACEMENT one. (If the third partiers don't let a liberal back in the white house.)

The actual quote is:
Bush outlined plans to use loans and tax credits to boost the number of minority homeowners by 5.5 million before 2010.Living in the real world (instead of a libertarian utopia) I think these efforts are smart and will be very effective politically. And who exactly is against an increase in minority homeownership?

These immigrants won't be going away and they will become a problem underclass if left unchecked. Bush has made notable efforts to align policies with hispanic voters. Call it socialism or call it wisdom, someone has to pick up the tab to move these new Americans forward. I'm not saying it's right but it won't get any better if it's ignored. It is not the government's job to be the lender of last resort nor level economic inequalities in society. That's the end of that - it has been tried many times and led to utter disaster.
If Bush wants to assimilate these people then a policy of "tough love" is necessary. Previous immigrants had to learn English and go to work for themselves. Why should this batch be any different? In truth, it shouldn't.
And yes, in the past, Americans worried about waves of German, Italian and Irish immigrants being a permanent underclass in America. Because they weren't mollycoddled, this is not what happened. Doing otherwise merely slows the assimilation process.
Regards, Ivan
