President George W. Bush waves to the crowd before being introduced by U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Mel Martinez (R), at the St. Paul AME Church while in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17, 2002. Bush outlined plans to use loans and tax credits to boost the number of minority homeowners by 5.5 million before 2010. (Larry Downing/Reuters)

No, he doesn’t say non-minorities are excluded, he just says the benefits are going to minorities and minority markets.

And the problem with that is?

My question to Registered stands. It was not an accusation, it was my interpretation of his post asking for clarification.

The thread "Bush Promotes Home Ownership Plan" is full of hysterical rants about "blacks" and "hispanics."

The *help* is going to minorities, which by definition in this country means black and hispanic. Hardly hysterical ranting.

other "we have to level the playing field" deals for DECADES now?? Just what the heck is holding them back still??????

see post #195. They spend their money on destructive debt. It's gone.
They think because whites have more, they must have better jobs or more money. That's not the case.
They're liberal spenders, while whites are often conservative savers.
If Bush were smart, he'd teach them conservative economics, rather than throw money at them.

"This ought to be fun".

Are you ridiculing Bush's Faith Based Initiatives?

Programs like this are a big win for conservatives. Your post displays your ignorance of the issues.

OK, but you're going to have problems convincing me otherwise. I get nervous when governments spend money on anything except guns and bombs - at least with guns and bombs we can kill the enemy. Social spending just creates pressure groups, socialists and welfare junkies and thus is a product of hell.

Regards, Ivan

Well then you should be cursing all the GI's who got help from the GI bill after World War II. After all that *help* created a bigger government.

The modern definition of conservatism includes the need to scale back the ever-expanding monster of the Federal Government. For the past two decades, *conservatives* have spoken of nothing more forcefully than dismantling the Fed, returning the power, control and money back where it ought to be, in the States, or more, in the people themselves. The same cannot be said of the political policies and platforms of the era of the GI Bill.

And for the umpteenth time, the GI Bill did not single out MINORITY GI's, it was a program for ALL GI's who saved this nation from destruction. This Bush proposal compares? Serious??

Does that mean that you will demand that "conservative" GI's (or their descendants) give back their houses for the good of the conservative cause?

This is a Faith Based Initiative!? HAHAHAHAHA!

Of course. Its the government-god answering the prayers of all of the people who have been praying for something for nothing, at the expense of those who work for what they have. It's called the Faith of Big Government Spendaholics.

What better way to learn about conservative politics than by owning your own home?
The truth is that we have been "leveling the playing field" by liberal means, which means we have been just throwing money at people. The change in this came with the Republican welfare reform signed grudgingly by Clinton, no doubt with promises that it would be rescinded before the 5-year limits came into play. Well I have news, lots of people have been dropped from the rolls, and they are WORKING (what a concept)!
Of course there will be many who will take advantage of this and mis-use it, but I also think that there are many who will really use this as a step to independence. I truly believe that there are few people who would willingly go back to a low-income apartment environment once they have had their own homes.
Also, as I see it, the program is aimed at minorities by being aimed at low-income people and minority areas. There are incentives for builders and lenders to increase the availability of homes and mortgages in these areas, thus targeting minorities, but not exactly excluding others.
