9-11 Smear-Mongering Fails to Dent Bush's Popularity
NewsMax.com ^ | Saturday May 25, 2002

A week's worth 9-11 smear-mongering by leading Democrats and their media handmaidens has failed to dent President Bush's popularity, according to the latest CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll.

More than three-quarters of those surveyed gave Bush a positive job approval rating, despite an onslaught of politically motivated accusations that administration officials failed to connect the dots on intelligence data that could have forewarned of the 9-11 attacks.

Sixty percent of those surveyed said the information available before the attacks would not have been enough for administration officials to have predicted what was coming.

Nineteen percent said the Bush administration made "an understandable mistake."

Only 23 percent agreed that Bush officials made "a serious error" in not reading the tea leaves foreshadowing the attacks.

Leading Democrats began their full-scale assault last Thursday, with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton demanding, "What did the president know?" in advance of Sept. 11.

And while some, like House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, have softened their earlier rhetoric, on Friday Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Joe Lieberman was still invoking Watergate-like phraseology to suggest a 9-11 scandal.

"I don't think the question is the old White House question about what did he know and when did he know it?" Lieberman told radioman Don Imus. "The really more important question, as we look back, is what was he told and when was he told it?"

The CNN-USA Today-Gallup survey polled 1,000 adults between May 20-22 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

"Most are civil servants and are thus only fireable for cause and after long drawn out court battle."

Yep. Summarily combing the records of EVERY employee in order to ESTABLISH cause ( or find NO cause ) would take years. The process of going over the records of employees accused of incompetence, negligence, etc. SUPPOSEDLY started last summer...I don't know what, if anything, has happened with that since 9-11.

Snippets from David Horowitz

*The first World Trade Center bombing was on February 26, 1993, one month into the Clinton Administration. The terrorists – Egyptians and Palestinians -- blew a hole six stories deep beneath the North Tower intending to topple it onto the South Tower and kill 250,000 people. It was – in the words of the definitive account – "the most ambitious terrorist attack ever attempted, anywhere, ever." Clinton did nothing. He did not even visit the site. Worse, he allowed the attack to be categorized as a criminal act by individuals, even though its mastermind – as the administration soon discovered -- was an Iraqi intelligence agent named Ramzi Youssef.

*The second attack took place 10 months later in Mogadishu, Somalia. It was an attack on American military forces who were in country to bring food to the starving Somalis. In the battle, which has been memorialized in Black Hawk Down, eighteen American soldiers were killed and the body of one was dragged through the streets in a gesture designed to formally humiliate the world’s greatest super power. Clinton’s response? He turned tail and ran.

*In 1995, Ramzi Youssef was captured in the Philippines with plans to use commercial airliners to blow up CIA headquarters among other targets. This al-Qaeda plot was termed "Operation Bojinka," which means "the big bang."

*After the discovery of "Operation Bojinka," Al Gore was appointed to head a task force to tighten airport security. Its key recommendations, which would have prevented 9/11, were rejected by the White House on the grounds that they might be construed as "racial profiling."

*In 1996 the Khobar Towers – a barracks housing U.S. soldiers was blown up in Saudia Arabia by Iranian and Palestinian terrorists acting on behalf of al-Qaeda. Nineteen U.S. servicemen were killed but the Saudis refused to cooperate in tracking down the killers. The Clinton Administration did nothing.

*In 1998, the year of Lewinsky, al-Qaeda blew up the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania– under any circumstances an act of war. Two-hundred-and-forty-five people were killed and 6,000 injured, mainly Africans. Clinton’s response? The infamous strike on a medicine factory in the Sudan and a spray of missiles into an emptied terrorist camp in Khost.

*In October 2000, al-Qaeda attacked the U.S.S Cole, an American warship, killing 17 servicemen. Another act of war. The Clinton response? Nothing. Every year that these terrorist attacks were taking place, Democrat congressional leaders supported bills to cut U.S. intelligence funding and/or hamstring CIA operations, and/or prevent the tightening of immigration controls – all of which would have strengthened American defenses against an al-Qaeda attack.

*Meanwhile, the principle ally of Saddam Hussein, the architect of suicide bombing, the creator of the first terrorist training camps, and the apostle of terror as a redemptive social cause -- Yasser Arafat -- was a "partner in peace" and the most frequent guest at the Clinton White House among foreign heads of state.

*Despite the fact that Republicans had fought Democrats for eight years over the military and intelligence budgets, over immigration and security issues, despite the alliances that leftwing Democrats had made with America’s enemies in the UN, despite the obstructionism of Senate Judiciary chairman Patrick Leahy in opposing domestic security measures and efforts by the Justice Department to bring al-Qaeda to heel, Republicans refused to point a partisan finger on issues of war and peace. Now their self-restraint has come back to haunt them as the Democrats seek to shift the blame they have done so much to earn to the shoulders of their political opponents.

*The Democratic attack on George Bush is based on an intelligence analysis he received a month before 9/11, which indicated that al-Qaeda terrorists were planning to hijack planes. The described threats in this analysis came under the category "general" meaning they did not specify time, place or method, and they were uncorroborated. The reports the President received in the months prior to 9/11 described targets that were mainly overseas – in the Arabian Peninsula, Israel, Italy, Paris, Rome and Turkey. On the slim reed of the existence of a possible hijacking threat in the United States – included with all these others -- the Democrats have built their treacherous case.

"That he couldn't remember the names of head's of state, and that during debate he wiggled his nose. And the number one---Gore won, and brother Jeb 'bought' the election and fixed it for George."

Yep. Also, after the second debate, which GW clearly won, I confess I tuned in to CNN, just to see how the left would deal with such a resounding defeat...and caught the tail and of a live broadcast from some left-wing college campus, starring a Pompous A$$ professor lecturing his students about "how even though Bush won the debate, he LOST the debate".

My head was beginning to reel after only about 6 minutes...I doubt that college kids stand much of a CHANGE after 1 1/2 to 3 hours of that crap.

"I predict a Demorat massacre in the polls this November."

Very conceivable, but only if Dubyuh and the GOP begin to make a solid case to the American people that we've got a positive agenda we look to enact if given the opportunity. Bush has slid steadily to the Left with his domestic Legislative duties (aka to Veto or Not To Veto and Capitol Hill-arm-twistin'), and he must work to re-energize his sizable conservative base that is increasingly wondering whether it's worth the effort to re-elect Republicans when they seem to grow the Size and Scope of the Federal Leviathan every bit as quickly as the DemonRATS. We need to pick 4-5 issues that the entire Party agrees to hammer on...then keep hammerin' and hammerin' and hammerin'!!! Education Vouchers and the de-linking of the Federal Bureaucracy and Teacher's Unions from our Education System should be one...Personal Retirement Accounts for younger Americans who choose not to depend upon the Ponzi-schemed Social Security System should be another...Increased Energy Independence is another...Medical Savings Accounts that protect us from major medical calamities but compel rational decisions with regards to our medical necessities for the first couple thousand dollars are needed instead of a more bureaucRATized Socialized Medicine the Leftists prefer...we need to distinguish the Left from the Right and run on exactly those issues, my FRiends!!

The time to compromise with the Left is past...now we need to take the battle to them!!

You nailed it. The FBI was stripped of any authority under Reno and the 'toon. This once proud institution has been desecrated by the 'toons tyrannical reign. During those dark days noone questioned why a lot of Xlinton felonies were never investigated. The professional ethic of the FBI was dragged through the mud and continues to this day. Let the FBI and the CIA do their jobs and keep the likes of Sen.(I use that term loosley)Clinton,Daschle, and all of the other dem obstructionists away from REAL Government. If they are so concerned about intel failure prior to 9/11,tell the loser dems to ask the chief obstructionist hinself; Bill "Dont you dare investigate Chinagate" Xlinton.

No problem, my FRiend...it all comes down to whather or not we want to centralize all our decision-making Powers to a bloated, inefficient; self-interested Federal Leviathan versus trusting the States, Localities, and individual American people to address more and more of the concerns of Life.

It is not insignificant that We Are Right on these issues because Collectivism has failed miserably each and every time it has been tried...the sooner Dubyuh and the GOP come to this realization and proceed accordingly, the more energized their base will become and the more likely we will see a '94-type paradigm shift in DeeCee!!
