9-11 Smear-Mongering Fails to Dent Bush's Popularity

A week's worth 9-11 smear-mongering by leading Democrats and their media handmaidens has failed to dent President Bush's popularity, according to the latest CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll.

More than three-quarters of those surveyed gave Bush a positive job approval rating, despite an onslaught of politically motivated accusations that administration officials failed to connect the dots on intelligence data that could have forewarned of the 9-11 attacks.

Sixty percent of those surveyed said the information available before the attacks would not have been enough for administration officials to have predicted what was coming.

Nineteen percent said the Bush administration made "an understandable mistake."

Only 23 percent agreed that Bush officials made "a serious error" in not reading the tea leaves foreshadowing the attacks.

Leading Democrats began their full-scale assault last Thursday, with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton demanding, "What did the president know?" in advance of Sept. 11.

And while some, like House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, have softened their earlier rhetoric, on Friday Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Joe Lieberman was still invoking Watergate-like phraseology to suggest a 9-11 scandal.

"I don't think the question is the old White House question about what did he know and when did he know it?" Lieberman told radioman Don Imus. "The really more important question, as we look back, is what was he told and when was he told it?"

The CNN-USA Today-Gallup survey polled 1,000 adults between May 20-22 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

IMHO, I think the one thing, that screwed the Dems was the fact that they, allowed Sen. Hitlery to open up her trap, and thus getting the spotlight back to the X42 administration, and their failure to go after OBL. Memo to Democrats, when you fire rocket launchers, don't stand directly behind them. Sorry, Richard Cohen,columnist of the Washington Compost, Hillary lost this one.

Oh, you forgot to put the Ashcroft nomination before Enron. AND the 2000 election and Enron together before ANWR. Also, there's nothing about how we went to war in Afghnistan over "the oil".

And the CIA and FBI ought to be grilling congress too. Why did they cut the budgets, why didn't they perform their oversight duties properly, why don't these agencies have the proper technology to function in today's world, why were their hands tied at every turn.

Congress has a lot to answer for in this too. What were those intelligence committees doing, playing poker?

Because going over the record of every single CIA, FBI and NSA employee to see who goes and who can stay...then the application/security screening process to replace those individuals...would effectively shut down those threee agencies for a couple of years?

You can only get rid of the political appointees of which there are only a few. Most are civil servants and are thus only fireable for cause and after long drawn out court battle.

Ah yes, the Bush tax cuts caused the recession....and the statistics that showed the econimic dip. That tactic shows how truly stupid and out of touch the left wing is. The American "masses" knew the economy was going downhill during the Clinton's reign. Democrats getting on TV and telling a country still in shock after 9-11 that the Bush tax cuts caused the post 9-11 economic hiccup was the most MASSIVELY ARROGANT INSULT of the American public I've seen since the Elian case.
