Well those stubborn Easterners have gone and done it this time. They passed an anti-UN ordinance in Grant County Oregon. They also passed a measure giving the county to right to control local federal owned forests. Obviously these are probably symbolic victories, but personally I like the symbolism. Here is the official vote:
County ballot measures
Keep the United Nations out of Grant County
Passed 1,326-959
(58 percent)
Stewardship on federal lands
Passed 1,512-745
(67 percent)
Here are the two stories I put up earlier this week with information on these initatives.
Oregon County has anti-UN and anti-Fed ballot initatives
Where stubborn pride meets broken dreams. (more on anti-UN ititative)
Stop the attacks by the wacko, enviro-nazis terrorist's on our Freedoms !!
Freedom Is Worth Fighting For !!
Molon Labe !!
"...You dare defy ME, Grant County?!"
Not to mention that it'll be about as effective as all those universities that declared themselves "Nuclear Free Zones" back in the '80s.
Sorry, folks, but this is the kind of stuff that will put Grant County, Oregon on a lot of peoples' "Whackjob Places to Avoid and Make Fun Of" list. It certainly won't do them any good.
Bump.
This message, however ineffective those who interpret its relevancy to current law may feel it, sends a strong message, and it is exactly the right one IMHO. "UN be gone!".
The more people, localities, counties and ultimately (hopefully) states who send such a message ... the more relevant and ultimately official it will become. At that point all of the "nuances" and "legaleze" will take care of itself.
Some of the talk against this takes on the aires of what must have been heard deom somne quarters when the founders dared talk about breaking with the Crown. Had to have been real "whacko" and "unlawful" sounding at the time. Well, as my German friends would say, "Naja, so ist das Leben, voller allerei Uberraschungen!". (Oh well, such is life ... full of all sorts of surprises!")
BYW, Jack, I am down in Texas doing some consulting so am not aare of the current scuttle butt around Idaho on this particular issue. But, knowing some folks over John Day way in Oregon, and knowing the folks along the Payette River in Idaho, I imagine there's a lot of agreement and sympathy for this move.
FRegards.
been heard deom somne quarters = from some quarters
Really fumbled that one up somehow.
We are US Citizens first, not citizens of the World.
And once enough of them do it ... then the spirit of this law (whether it has been written well there in Oregon or Utah or anyhere else for that matter) will be properly manifest as the US Congress passes an act instructing the UN to pack its bags, leave our shores and take our name off its membership list.
One of a number of fairly high profile issues I hope to see our nation set aright in my lifetime ... along with Restoring the right to bear arms to its proper place and along with overturning Roe V. Wade and taking a large step in restoring our moral foundation and a culture of life to our nation ... to name a couple.
FRegards.
Anyone have any idea of what this resolution actually says?
