I understand that Utah State's Attorney General forbade the Utah town from making their anti-UN law stick. Worse yet, the local libs got together and voted out of office the anti-UN politicians.

The state AG jumped on it because of the First Amendment issues. As for the locals, it wasn't liberals, unless your definition of liberal is extremely plastic.

Sorry, that congress.org link was not very good. I entered in my zip code. It showed 23 papers. I have never seen or heard of 20 of them, and I read all the local papers. Additionally, the two local newspapers that have a broad circulation in my area and that everyone reads to get all the local news weren't mentioned. This isn't a liberal/conservative issue; they just flat didn't list the most widely read papers in the area.

Defending the Constitution is NOT "sucking up to the UN," it's defending the Constitution.

Not to mention that it'll be about as effective as all those universities that declared themselves "Nuclear Free Zones" back in the '80s.

Sorry, folks, but this is the kind of stuff that will put Grant County, Oregon on a lot of peoples' "Whackjob Places to Avoid and Make Fun Of" list. It certainly won't do them any good.

This may be symbolism but it is a strong indicator of growing distaste and possibly hatred of the u.n..

I'm glad they did it. Hope we see more of it.

This message, however ineffective those who interpret its relevancy to current law may feel it, sends a strong message, and it is exactly the right one IMHO. "UN be gone!".

The more people, localities, counties and ultimately (hopefully) states who send such a message ... the more relevant and ultimately official it will become. At that point all of the "nuances" and "legaleze" will take care of itself.

Some of the talk against this takes on the aires of what must have been heard deom somne quarters when the founders dared talk about breaking with the Crown. Had to have been real "whacko" and "unlawful" sounding at the time. Well, as my German friends would say, "Naja, so ist das Leben, voller allerei Uberraschungen!". (Oh well, such is life ... full of all sorts of surprises!")

BYW, Jack, I am down in Texas doing some consulting so am not aare of the current scuttle butt around Idaho on this particular issue. But, knowing some folks over John Day way in Oregon, and knowing the folks along the Payette River in Idaho, I imagine there's a lot of agreement and sympathy for this move.

FRegards.

Regardless of what some may postulate, this is exactly what each city, county and state need to do. Only when this starts happening will the brain-deads in DC figure out that regular Americans don't want to cede their rights over to the United Nations.

We are US Citizens first, not citizens of the World.

Exactly.

And once enough of them do it ... then the spirit of this law (whether it has been written well there in Oregon or Utah or anyhere else for that matter) will be properly manifest as the US Congress passes an act instructing the UN to pack its bags, leave our shores and take our name off its membership list.

One of a number of fairly high profile issues I hope to see our nation set aright in my lifetime ... along with Restoring the right to bear arms to its proper place and along with overturning Roe V. Wade and taking a large step in restoring our moral foundation and a culture of life to our nation ... to name a couple.

FRegards.

No, that is NOT the text of the ordinance. I don't have it. I will Google search and try to find it. I made those up as examples of Anti-UN ordinances that would not be unconstitutional. Sorry if this was misleading.

Anyone have any idea of what this resolution actually says?
