Posted on 05/04/2002 5:13:56 PM PDT by Hillary's Lovely Legs

The WHCA represents the White House press corps in its dealings with the administration on coverage-related issues.

A nine-member board of directors, elected by correspondents, addresses access to the chief executive; coverage arrangements; work space arrangements; logistics and costs for press travel to accompany a president on the road.

The WHCA also holds an annual dinner. The 2002 dinner will be held on May 4 at 9:30pm on C-Span. Drew Carey is the featured entertainment.

President Geprge Bush speaks at the 87th annual dinner of the White House Correspondents' Association April 28, 2001. Saturday Night Live comic Darrell Hammond was the featured entertainmnet, but Bush had the crowd laughing with his own family slide show.

Read about the 2001 dinner.

anyone see Condi Rice running out the room?

I missed that but I can tell you why I would be running out of the room if I were in her place. If I were in a room with a bunch of journalists and other liberals and President Bush was leaving, I know I'd certainly want to get out of that place as fast as I could and catch up with the President!

I absolutely loved whoever was in charge of the camera when Drew Carey said that convincing the Arabs that the U.S. didn't fake the OBL tapes is as difficult as trying to convince the democrats that they lost the election, and then the camera shows Carville frowning, while everyone else in the room laughs. That moment was priceless.

I watched the replay of Darrell Hammond and forgot how absolutely hysterical he was-it was almost a stream of consciousnes rant, that was perhaps a tad inappropriate for the President, but an absolutely fall down laughing performance.

I want to take up a collection to get some of those women a 3 way mirror. I am sure if they saw themselves from the back they would have rethought the outfit.

When I read this I thought of the woman in Post #20 sitting next to Lynne Cheney. I saw her when the dinner was over and there was almost no back to her dress. She had several criss-cross straps, but the worst part was that she's too skinny for that fashion! Her back was so bony it was un-attractive, then when she turned around, Sir SuziQ said the front view wasn't any better! She needed a little more meat on those bones to wear that dress well!

Mr. kayak was underwhelmed by that dress, too ..... well, not the dress per se but the combination of it and the skeleton who was wearing it .....

..... now if Christie Brinkley had been wearing that same dress, I would probably have had to get out the cold compresses for Mr. k ...... LOL!

I thought of that woman in black and also a black woman next to her in grey. The dress was so tight that I was looking for burst seams. There is no law against purchasing the correct size for your body. If you have to, just tear out the labels and sew in a size 8 tag.

I remember watching some show one night and Dolly Parton was on. During the night her dress split open. When she came back out on stage, she had someone's coat tied around her waist. She made a joke about it saying "my daddy always said you shouldn't put 10 pounds of potatos in a 5 pound sack!"

I loved the color of Laura's dress, and that deep boat neckline was stunning on her. She would have looked even MORE stunning with a necklace of aquamarine stones!!

[Drew Carey's] a self-described libertarian.

It takes a lot of guts to ridicule conservatism and liberalism right in front of the most powerful RepublicRats in the nation. I think that's why Drew was nervous and his jokes were making so many in the audience (and at FreeRepublic) uncomfortable. The liberals can't write him off as an angry white male conservative when he "jokes" about legalizing pot and the conservatives can't write him off as a Hollywod liberal when he sincerely thanks the military and expresses genuine relief at Bush beating Gore.

Way to shake 'em up Drew!

You'd be surprised-- there are plenty of FReepers in the same boat as Mary Matalin (married to a Democrat). Some folks down South take college sports very seriously, but marry people who are superfans of a rival school. I take Mary at her word when she says she love him (why in the world besides that would someone marry Serpenthead).

They may very well agree on how to raise their children, and both are pro-choice, so they have things in common. They both might even be fans of LSU athletics.

Well Greta was beside Ozzy and Bret Baier was with Condi. But other than that, I don't recall seeing the rest of those at FNC.
