By NORAH VINCENT Norah Vincent is a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, a think tank set up after Sept. 11 to study terrorism.
Nobody talks about honor anymore, certainly not male honor, so this is going to sound very old-fashioned. And nobody, except the hippest, most artfully abstruse academics, thinks of wars in terms of gender paradigms. But the war on terror is just such a war. It's a war about cultural masculinity, ours versus theirs.

Consider, by contrast, an equivalent situation in the Arab world: the unveiled girls who were caught recently in a fire at their school in Saudi Arabia. Because the girls were not dressed in proper hijab, male rescuers did not go in to rescue them. Their fragile masculinity--the same fragile masculinity that has led Muslim clerics for generations to opportunistically misinterpret the Koran's teachings on women--also prevented them from saving innocent lives. What a side-by-side comparison ! The NYFD running into a collapsing skyscraper to save lives and a bunch of Islamic men afraid to pull some girls out of a burning school because they aren't wearing veils. I wish we had pictures of the latter, so we could post them alongside pictures of the 9/11 heros.

Good, it's time this was picked up in the mainstream press. There is also something lacking in a society that allows their men to stand around with nothing to do instead of FINDING something productive to do. They seem to expect their government to furnish them with jobs instead of going out themselves and filling a need themselves.
"Men" who hide behind women and children can't exactly be called men, they don't quite measure up to the term. Good grief, even now they've relegated the actual bombing to their women and children. What a pathetic lot.

Ironic that liberal/lefist Americans who find hood-wearers in America (KKK) so repulsive,
think that hood-wearing killers in the Middle East are pretty cool.

Take crowds of young men, give them nothing to do, no hope for the future, someone to blame for their misfortunes and no outlet for their masculine instincts, and you have a breeding ground for terrorism. Although on the surface this looks like a reversal for the LA Times, except for the headline this is a pretty wimpy article. No, Norah, teenagers don't turn into terrorist murderers because they have too much time on their hands. They turn into terrorists because they have been brainwashed by sick Islamic propagandists to hate Jews, Infidels, and Americans ever since they were tiny children. Sure, kids hanging around street corners can get into trouble or resort to violence, but nothing like this kind of perverted, sick business we are seeing in Palestine.
Contrary to liberal dogma, poverty alone is not the source of evil.

It looks like you posted a full article from the LA Times. That's a big no-no, isn't it?

Obviously I didnt think so.
Its rather disingenuous to post this as a question to the moderator and me at the same time. Why didnt you just find out the answer to your question on your own and if what you suspected was true you could state it as a fact, instead of this half-assed casting of dispersion, like it looks like and may be, if it is so, say so, if not, why talk about it when you should be doing something about it?
There used to be clearly stated warnings not to post from certain sources, now there are no warnings and at: http://www.freerepublic.com/help.htm#articles nothing is mentioned about what is allowed and what is not for sources. I assume that they won their case, otherwise why would there be no more warnings? Also the article is still up. Robinson has been quick enough to not allow anything thats against FreeRepublic.com policy, to stand.

BIG BUMP and THANKS for posting this. Oh YES, REAL masculinity is one of the hallmarks of western civilization. It is one of those ideas which makes our civilization worth defending. It puts to shame those who send in women and children to do a man's job, whether they are Palestinian "warriors "(snork, snicker) or Saudi WIMPS who require American WOMEN to come over and protect their country because they are too lazy and incompetent to do it themselves.
I loathe the Saudis and my loathing is increasing daily and made worse by the puckering up to them by our "leaders."

I'll print that photo and caption together, and put together a poster for the next pro-PLO, "free Palestine" rally at the UC Davis campus...
Should really turn some heads...!

Thanks for posting this article. This has been on many minds, I'm sure.
I have come to think of the Arab men as particularly wimpish. Unlike men, hardly male and more like the bull elephants (animals) spoken of in the article. They are afraid of women, afraid of freedom, afraid of working and not above using little children to attain their desired results in terroristic terms. In fact, they have to use terror, the ulitmate cowardly tactic, because they are such small and inhumane freaks.
I have often wondered if arab men must abuse women and use terror and accept dictators because they are, well, rather un-endowed, so to speak.
As a race, they certainly have attained a replusive image around the world. Absolute cowards. Unethical, immoral, unabashed, animalistic barbarians.

Gosh, Republic, don't hold back! LOL!!!
As for the underlying causes (and I do mean UNDER, as in "endowed") of their low (as in "less than average") self-esteem, there is that rumour over what REALLY set off OBL against America (and its women).
