That's a little premature to say. Report back in 6 months.

For breakfast/lunch, I usually have a bowl of oats and a tin of King Oscar sardines packed in olive oil with garlic. So I get some kind of fish and olive oil every day which I think is important. My wife and I basically cook every night from raw ingredients. And when I snack, it is usually always nuts like peanuts or pistachios. Those are high in fat but the "good" kind of fat (mono or poly unsaturated). The salt shakers are gone from the house and wherever butter would be used, pure extra virgin olive oil is used instead. Makes a big difference, in my opinion. I'm still overweight but at least I'm healthy and I feel good.
I still think the obesity problem is tied to lack of exercise. For the entire history of human civilization - up until modern times - the average human did manual labor all day long. Even those with sedentary jobs had to walk everywhere and do lots of labor-intensive chores at home.
Looking at pictures of medieval times, the only fat people you saw were those in the royal families who were waited on hand and foot by servants all day. Well these days, we all live like royalty. The average Joe today has luxuries that kings and queens could only dream about just 100 years ago. Until humans evolve with a lower metabolism (to compensate for the lack of physical activity), I'm afraid obesity will continue to be a huge social problem.
I watched a rotund woman eat at a baseball game over the weekend. It was nachos in fake cheese sauce, ice cream, a hot dog, a grilled soft pretzel and a bigass Coke. And she'll probably say "I really don't eat that much".
What do sumo wrestlers eat? Lots of noodles. What do fat rednecks around here eat? Lots of beer, bread and potatoes. What do fat Italians eat? Lots of pasta.
I would be interested to know if this is true. I am a gym rat, a competitive body builder. In the off season I weigh 190 pounds and for contests I get under 176 pounds.
But even when I am cutting weight, I do not eliminate carbs entirely. I simply reduce them. Muscles need carbs, or they lose size. During this cutting phase I will lose 1-2 pounds per week over 12-16 weeks. But my carb intake at its lowest point during this period does not go below 125-175 grams per day. Simple carbs are shunned, breads, rice, pastsa, etc., as well as fruits. I rely on complex carbs like oatmeal or red skin potatoes and veggies, mainly broccli and cauliflower.
I have had to diet too hard at the last minute to shed fat, where my carb intake has been as low as 40-50 grams per day for a week. But I lost a tremendous amount of muscle in the process.
True, a high-protein diet does indeed strain the kidneys. Pancreatic enzymes taken after eating, however, break the protein down into smaller components that are easier on the kidney.
With pancreatic enzymes, renal patients can benefit from eating enough protein for good nutrition, yet preserve their remaining kidney function.
I know a person with chronic kidney failure who's taking the enzymes, eating adequate protein; the only person in the program whose blood tests are not showing sustained decline in kidney function. (And no, I don't work in the enzyme distribution chain.)
Sardines in Olive Oil and garlic. Yum.
I started buying real olive oil this year. I love dipping bagels in it with some Syrian Zaatar mixed in. That's a once a month treat.
Don't feel bad about that. I have had many experts tell me that a cheat day, once per week is an ideal way to lose weight.
Your body is concerned about self-preservation. And once it realizes it is losing weight, it begins to fight you. A periodic 'cheat day' tricks your body into thinking that everything is back to normal and it quits fighting your weight loss once you resume the diet.
A cheat day is also a great mental help, not to mention better for your social life if you want to enjoy a resturaunt meal with friends or a cookout with the family.
Constipation is also a major factor. I did it for two weeks last year, lost about 15 lbs. (which I've gained back, plus). But at the end, I told my wife all I wanted was a bran muffin and a glass of cranberry juice.
I can cut the flours and the refined sugars. But I had a hard time cutting the fruits and juices.

NEW YORK Robert C. Atkins, M.D., author of the immensely popular "Atkins' Diet," admitted at a press conference Thursday the famous diet really started out as a joke. "Let's face it, eating huge amounts of meats and cheeses to lose weight doesn't make a lot of sense in light of all the current medical evidence," Atkins said. "No, I have to admit, I first thought of it as a sort of prank against a tubby patient who wouldn't pay his bill." The diet, which espouses high meat and protein intake accompanied by a severe reduction in carbohydrates, has helped millions obtain substantial weight loss. Critics argue the diet puts people at risk. Atkins used to feel the same way. "I honestly thought it would put people at risk too. In fact, I thought that first patient would easily gain another 100 pounds." Instead, and much to his surprise, the obese patient had lost almost 75 pounds. Atkins realized he was onto something and immediately bought a houseboat with the expectation of riches beyond his wildest dreams. "I couldn't believe it when he first prescribed the diet," former patient Peter Flint said. "I thought any diet that included all the sausage I wanted was a true miracle." Flint also thought it was a miracle when he could look down and easily see both his feet and his penis -- both of which were thought to be lost forever in the thick folds of flab. "I don't care if the doctor really is an evil bastard," Flint said. "I can now see my penis, for God's sake. I can't thank the man enough." |
Never had a problem with jogging and joints
I'm in pretty good shape. I was recently in LV for a convention. I took my brother with me and he couldn't keep up with me. I've always been very strong, agile and graceful for my size. I've been athletic all my life. I'm just a big dude. Most people recognize I'm overweight (mostly the 'beer' (don't do much alchohol actually) gut), but are shocked at how much I actually weigh. (nope, I aint tellin')

Please tell me you're not putting olive oil on blueberry muffins. That's just so wrong.
