According to dieticians I've spoken to, its how much you eat, not just what you eat. Most things are fine in moderation, but overweight people routinely eat way more than they need. You can eat as much as you want....depending on what you eat. You can eat as much brocolli, cauliflower and other type veggies as you want.
I watched a rotund woman eat at a baseball game over the weekend. It was nachos in fake cheese sauce, ice cream, a hot dog, a grilled soft pretzel and a bigass Coke. And she'll probably say "I really don't eat that much".
What do sumo wrestlers eat? Lots of noodles. What do fat rednecks around here eat? Lots of beer, bread and potatoes. What do fat Italians eat? Lots of pasta.

I have to agree with the amount people eat. With super-sized everything these days, huge portions. Over-weight people will usually eat until they are stuffed. Much easier to loose weight by eating less than by exercising more.
