In the most recent issue of America's 1st Freedom, there is a small blurb about the newest regulation to hit Aussie Land.

The Next Logical Step
In Australia, recent gun prohibitions have all but disarmed the public. Now, Aboriginal police liason officers, the sole police presence in some remote areas of the country, are themselves being disarmed.
An e-mail sent to metropolitan police commanders said the ban on APLOs carrying police-issue sidearms would take effect immediately.
The APLOs are sometimes faced with dangerous situations and armed criminals, and police backup is many times as much as three hours away. In the communities of Bidyadanga and Beagle Bay, armed APLOs have been the only police presence to this point.
Steve Robbins, acting assistant commisioner, says the disarmament plan serves to reinforce the APLO's "role as liason officers in the Aboriginal community." (I wonder if he said that with a straight face?)
Police Union President Mike Dean said that, "people in charge of stations have utilized (APLOs) as part of their full strength. They rely on them." He believes all APLOs should be made constables. The West Australian reports.

Sounds like another case of the higher ups making decisions without seeing what effect it has on those who are actually affected.
To keep their guns from rusting
I saw another article where they pat down the public for knives now too!
White Settlement officer fatally shot; suspect dead.
WFAA-TV video link on the Dallas Morning News page.
I hope they get hit with wholesale resignations.
This is stunningly stupid even for a bureaucrat.
Well, some tried, anyhow. The problem is that they were all registered,so the cops knew who had them. The REAL "Crocodile Dundee" was one of the people who tried to keep his rifles. He was killed in a shootout with the police at a roadblock they set up to confiscate his guns and arrest him.
Yes,really.
That's completely untrue.
I can never understand these supposedly pro-gun sites that tell complete lies in an attempt to alarm people into taking up their cause. The simplest check on Google would show that hunting and shooting are very popular here, and that Australians enjoy high levels of gun ownership. I guess they figure there's a few idiots on the Web who are too lazy, or too stupid, to check the facts?
Compliance rate with the gun buy back was 28% on the government's own figures, weikel.
Trav, has there ever been any negative propaganda about Australia, posted on FR, that you haven't swallowed hook, line, and sinker?
(Don't bother answering.)
No.
He shot a cop, from ambush, and was then shot himself. A cop with a young wife and new baby, I might add. Rod Ansell was no hero, Pete.
