If I recall correctly, he played a Quisling-type leader of an occupied America. The Governor/President of Heartland wasn't it? I remember that one of the things they did was break the US up into different countries. I still remember the stunned look on his face when everything started to go wrong at the rally when he announced the partition of the US.
A great actor.
RIP Mr. Urich.

Perhaps.....he was an actor. Since you don't seem to understand, that means a person pretends to be a person that not always fits their personality. I don't know what his personal politics is, but it is utterly idiotic to condemn the man for what movies he was in!

I was asking a question. Check first before you go in for the kill.

Believe it or not, it was a Datsun 280ZX. We gutted the interior, and replaced it with leather, and installed gold plated hardware. The exterior chrome pieces were replaced with gold plated ones, as were the wheels. It was kind of a mini pimp mobile when we got done with it. I don't think that he kept it very long afterward. I'd have ditched it too.

I always wondered why I never saw Diane Lane after LD. Did I miss her or did she fade away?

I watch almost no tv, but I watched "Spenser" for quite a time on a regular basis. I always like Urich, but I seem to recall that he came out against Bush during the 2000 campaign and perhaps afterwards. Do you recall this?

I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Urich once, and during my short time of knowing him, I found him to be one of the most genuine, fun, and happy people I've met.
God Bless his soul, and God Bless his family. I can only imagine their feeling of loss. He was a great guy! We'll all miss you, Robert!

I loved Robert Urich. He was one of the few lights in hollyweirdo.
He was conditioned like most are, to go to the conventional medical field for treatment for cancer. There are better ways that have been proven successful, with cancer truly cured. Remission is all that the conventional medical field can promise, and after years its back worst, and all most all will die.
A sad day for us, but Robert is in a much better place.

Robert Urich was a class act all the way; I too would have liked to see Alec Baldwin go instead.

I'd just like to mention one of his rarely known movies. Ice Pirates - one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. That is a funny movie!! Didn't Bing Crosby's daughter play opposite him in that one?
It was sad to hear of his death. May God Bless his wife and children.

You're thinking of Kaposi's Sarcoma. There are different types of sarcomas, which are cancers of the soft tissue areas. With the exception of Kaposi's,none of them has any particular association with AIDS.

I watched "Night of the Wolf" last night, it was very good. My hubby (who is now 5 years in remission from cancer) made a comment about how old Urich looked, the treatment must have really been taking a toll on him. I was shocked to hear of his passing this morning. My prayers go out to his family.

Seemed like a nice guy.Yeah, he did. I never really watched much he was in, but to me he seemed like one of those people with whom you probably enjoy sitting down to dinner. Unlike many Hollywood types whom I wouldn't even let into my home!

Didn't Bing Crosby's daughter play opposite him in that one?Yup.

I always wondered why I never saw Diane Lane after LD. Did I miss her or did she fade away? You must have missed her, the IMDB lists her as having appeared in 28 productions since Lonesome Dove.
Her more prominent appearances have been in Knight Moves (decent thriller involving chess players and a serial killer), Chaplin, Indian Summer, Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All (TV movie), Judge Dredd (with Sylvester Stallone), Murder at 1600 (with Wesley Snipes), The Perfect Storm, The Glass House, and I just saw her in a preview for the upcoming film thriller "Unfaithful". All of these are starring or co-starring roles, not bit parts.

i too am very sad... i loved him in Spencer for Hire... my husband and i named our dog Spencer after him... actually, we were considering the name Cisco--and we thought of Avery Brooks from Deep Space Nine who played "the Cisco (sp?)... and then we remembered he played Hawk on Spencer for Hire, and that is how we came up with the name Spencer for our dog... i can still hear Hawk say the, "Spensa," in his gruff voice during his secret meetings with Spencer...

I'd seen very little of Robert Urich's work, but I always looked foreward to them. For me, his name was the come-on. As a person he stood out for what he wasn't --- a swinger, a drop-dead-handsome-sexpot, a Hollywood idol type --- you get the picture. He seemed to be a person that you would like to know, and his attitude and personal fight with his disease raised my respect for him to no end.
I was very sad to hear of his death. God bless him and his family.
