I feel a little bad. I complained some( a suggestion actually) about the new look.
I Know Jim and John put a lot of work into the look and now it's almost back to the old look.
A flag background, light blue border or something across the top would dress it up and not interfere with the useability.

The version now out as of this writing is far more usable than the previous several.

Looks good, still a bit of tinkering here and there.
However, there are a couple of things tha[Splat!]

I like the way FR looks. Could we change the font to New Times roman on the Posts page.

So this whole effort was to find the perfect FONT??? And perfect headline color? I am still annoyed and liked FR much better a month ago before all the changes when I could scroll through every single article title posted.
I am trying here, but getting more and more discusted by the minute and all the time wasted on this by the forum members is really not helping the conservative issues at hand. Yes, I guess I am guilty too even commenting on this matter but frankly I have been unable to do any research on FR since the changes have been implemented and I am resorting more and more to google.com to sort things out for me.

This is MUCH better than yesterday! Thank you, Mr.Robinson.

I agree. For recent improvements, the grade is A+. Yeah but not an A+ "Bert"

One more nagging suggestion. Get rid of the "My"s. If I wanted to be a Yahoo weinie, I would be at Yahoo. I am not buying something at auction.
I dont need to make a personalized statement about Free Republic. I am Free Republic, in the sense that I am a committed member of this group of terrific people who meet here voluntarily to swap ideas and learn from each other. You dont have to use such a marketing gimmick. We are here.

The majority of people who frequent special interest group forums aren't much interested in anything other than the information, familiarity and ease-of-use, by the way.
You are talking to me as though I'm not one of the people frequenting this special interest group forum for the news and discussion that's offered. I sure don't come here to look at graphics!
To me, the way the lines of the comment section end in mid-air and the lines in the right-hand column begin in mid-air is distracting. Would you find a box around the right-hand column too distracting?
To: lawdude
It works and looks great now. Loads faster, some cool new features AND they put "Find in Forum" back on the FReeper home pages!

Much better now as it is resembling the original style. Fact is that the original style is excellent for reading and posting without graphic and font clutter distractions. Its the content and postings in a readable manner which is important. Coke is better than new coke in this case.

Sorry. In a previous post, you disparaged the look of a successful forum and I asked you a question that you didn't answer so I made the mistake of providing you the answer here. That was a mistake on my part.
Would you find a box around the right-hand column too distracting?
No.

As far as I'm concerned Jim and JohnRob have it! It will still take a little getting used to and I'm sure they'll be doing a little tweaking (and maybe testing borders and colors), but basically it'll fly as is!! After yesterday's marathon-posting bitch session (there must have been over 2,000 posts total), things are relatively low key this afternoon.
Now, about that spell-checker... :>))

More of my unsolicited opinion:
I liked the left border and the selections and info readily available. Maybe it is just this laptop, but with the left border gone, the headlines are scrunched up against the left side of the screen. Maybe an indentation of an inch or so.
Not that I'm picky or anything. Its not like there are any pressing world problems occupying my thoughts.

This is getting really sharp! Thanks to the Robinsons, et. al. for uncluttering the page. What he said.
Yesterdays version was a great effort, and you came closer to perfection. "Youse guys" need to find a way to pile in all the neat options while retaining the simplicity and clarity.
Maybe put it all into a preferences page, with a blurb telling people where to find it?

The Beta version looked professional...the new revisions look minimalist. I'm not much one for minimalist but thats a matter of taste.
Whatever it is, it would be nice to have it finalized so it doesn't change every five minutes.
