Drowning in Buckets by Children More Common Than Accidental Shootings

Shocked by the fact that so many more children die by accidental drowning than by guns a group of Moms has started a grassroots movement to prevent children from becoming victims of standing water. They have started a Ten Moms March (TMM) that will take place on the Mall in Washington D.C. in September. They chose Ten Moms because they think they will get a few more participants and it will be a raging success, unlike previous marches that billed themselves as Million this or Million that.

If you have a bathtub, sink, toilet or just running water in your house your child has a 79% greater chance of being drowned around the home. Since it would be nearly impossible to eliminate running water from houses across the land the TMM propose common sense laws to prevent accidental drownings. There are three main laws they would like to see enacted.

1) A ban on hi-capacity liquid containers such as swimming pools, 55 gallon drums and washtubs over 25 gallon capacity.

2) Mandatory child safety holes in all containers with a diameter larger than 6 inches. The stoppers must be removed when water is introduced into the container.

3) Mandatory locks on any device that children could drown in. The most promonent container is the toilet bowl. We realize this will be an inconveince, but the safety of your children should be your number one concern.

Shown here are two great examples of proposed new child safety buckets. We feel that forcing parents to use these devices will prevent thousands of deaths a year.

This is ridiculous! How can the container hold water? You will just have to be fast, think of it like trying to get a trigger lock off of a home defense weapon when a perpetrator is making his way toward you.

Colorful pails such as this one are hazards just waiting to happen. We advise getting rid of them as soon as possible. Why take chance with your children?

If you have room like this in your home you are putting your children at risk.

We realize that the most controversial item will be mandatory toilet lid locks. This will save more children's lives than any other proposal. Parents should not mind this little intrusion into their lives. Along with this will be a reward for neigbors and friends who turn law-breaking parents in.

Bathtubs are a super hazard to young children. Perhaps we should be listening more carefully to our boys and girls when they struggle when it is bath time. Maybe they realize the danger parents are subjecting them to.

Just like Joe Camel, Eddie Eagle and Ronald McDonald the we must get rid of cartoon characters that lure unsuspecting children into dangerous situations.

Pools! Don't even think about owning one!

Cute pictures like this one could land parents in jail on charges of reckless endangerment

More kids are killed by simply walking than by containers of water or handguns combined. Locking your child in a closet, or binding their feet together, could be seen as a trendy and innovative safety intervention.

Wait a minute. People have a right to enjoy standing water, it's guaranteed by the Constitution, y'know, "the Pursuit of Happiness" and all...
You can't go and mandate a trigger toilet-lid lock for every household in America, that's totalitarianism at its worst!
What are these TMM wimmen all about, anyway!? I bet they're just a bunch of uptight ol' biddies like Carrie Nations who couldn't have a meaningful life if their very existence depended on it!

Well, if that's true, maybe we should string 'em up to the rafters, or nail their little feet to the closet floor! Yeah, that's the ticket!

Cover your walls with velcro, put your kids in a velcro suit and stick them to the walls.

My kids enjoy hanging from the rafters. Why should we let our kids enjoy anything?

Nails are too easily removed, even my three yearolds were able to do that.

Velcro? I just knew there was a reason to go back to Lowes!

How about a model using the plastic collars that you get from the dog groomers? That dominant leaky bucket traffic should be a flat line if we are saving lives here.

Can we make the bucket safer if we empty a Glock into (through) it?
Shouldn't you then obtain a geometric increase in H2O outflow and a corresponding decrease in hazardous material from the containment vessel?

You laugh, but the federal government actually asked the paint industry to "voluntarily" regulate its use of buckets. The end result is a universal child drowning sticker that can be applied to the bucket. They had wanted a more agressive solution, such as a bucket that tipped over when a child dove in, or a bucket that biodegraded over time. Thankfully, drier heads prevailed.

I always wondered why they were attacking buckets...which were designed to hold paint, etc., not water...yet they had no intention of attacking the tub, toilet, and sink industries, and their killer products.

Put the little darlings in a bell jar until they reach 18 or 21, whichever is the majority in your state.
