NBC's Opening Night Coverage Is More Limp Than Olympic, by Tom Shales, Sat. Feb. 9, 2002; Page C01.
A scathing article about the coverage of the opening ceremonies from the
Washington Post. Worth clicking on link to read. Some quotes:
"Couric and Costas managed to mangle what should have been one of the most moving highlights of last night's pageantry. "
"An awesome silence came over the crowd -- but not over the blabbery and jabbery Couric and Costas."
"Costas and Couric yakked away from their little perch"

Is my memory failing me or didn't we always watch REAL TIME Olympic coverage? This is such a disappointment! If the schedule I see on the NBC site means what I think, then they only will run mogul coverage from 8-8:30 tonight :-/

LOL. I saw some pictures, courtesy of rintense, where GW had his arms around some of the lady athletes. It was so nice to know that it was fatherly affection and not some wierd perversion.

Some people are following the Canadian live feed by satellite.

Is she not a Mormon? ;-) Uh, oh, you may be in violation of the February 7, 2002 posting restrictions. (no bashing of anyone because of anything).
If you wish to criticize her because she's a MORON, that's ok, but don't criticize anyone because they are a MORmON.
Its a new rule. Check with JimRob.

Well, you missed out last night. The ceremonies did America proud. Dubya was tremendous; instead of opening the games from the podium, he climbed in with the athletes - no Secret Service agents around him - and sat with them. In one great moment, a female athlete called someone on her cell phone and handed it to GWB. He didn't blink; he just took the phone and started chatting. I turned to my wife and said, "I love that man..."

Hey--no bash here! Mormons don't do caffeine or alcohol--its a fact! They own alot of Coca Cola stock though! I like Mormons! YAY Beehive State! Just please, show the world the golden plates.

Another gem from Li'l Katie: "Did you know that Argentina has produced more Miss Universes than any other country?"
To: Eowyn-of-Rohan
Mormons don't do caffeine or alcohol--its a fact! They are not SUPPOSED to. Take if from a guy who was born into a 5th Generation Mormon household. A substantial percentage of those on the rolls as members of the LDS Church drink Whiskey and coffee like Irish Catholics. And they smoke like Siver Screen Movie stars. Nobody is perfect, eh?

Mormons don't do caffeine or alcohol--its a fact! Actually, this is not entirely true. Caffeine is not prohibited. I don't know how this myth got started, but it is not official church doctrine, even though a lot of mormons seem to think that it is.

Look at the Secret Service guy to the left of GW. He looks pretty apprehensive. A great place for The Tourist Guy to be, actually...

For a thread that is supposed to be a Rah Rah thread about the Olympics, this thread is going nowhere. Most of the comments are from people who don't give a flip. Everyone else who doesn't give a flip is busy posting elsewhere.
I might watch the some of the olympics if I find myself in need of some extra sleep.

I am an ex- Park City-ite...a number of "jack" Mormons there back then, and I do know what you mean ;-) though I am not Mormon...but I really did find alot to like about the Mormons I met. I worked at the ski resort pre-Deer Valley, saw Osmonds and everything...memories aplenty!!

To: Dementon; Eowyn-of-Rohan
Caffeine is not prohibited Actually from what I recall only Alcohol and "hot drinks" and "cold drinks" are prohibited. That means you can drink anything as long as it doesn't contain alcohol and as long as it is lukewarm. (barf)
Cocaine, Marjuana, Heroin are not mentioned in the "word of wisdom" either. A lot of my Mormon cousins took that to heart.
