ANN ARBOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan wants to build a 250-foot-high freestanding crucifix at his Domino's Farms office park in this Washtenaw County community.
The 25-story structure, topped by a 40-foot figure of Christ, would be about as tall as the Statue of Liberty, and 51 feet shorter than the tip of its torch.

Something like, say, a bronze serpent or maybe golden cherubim, perhaps... And it's not like God Himself became flesh and made His dwelling amongst us, providing a true Image of Himself. You're entitled to your opinion on the meaning of the Second Commandment. When you pretend that your interpretation is the only right one, in contradiction to the entire history of Christendom, though, you give me lessons in the true meaning of arrogance. Sorry if I offended you. It seemes like a clear violation of the commandment to me. But in the name of tolerance, if you want to continue to bow before a cross, more power to ya.

I'm not that easily offended. It's not an idol. But in the name of tolerance, If you want to continue to bear false witness against your neighbors, more power to ya.

We know the hidden, occult meaning of the peace sign, and who stands
illuminated over the harbor. Nice find! I'll see you one image and raise you FOUR. Don'tcha think Dominoes wants to put up a "twisted cross" or a "bent cross" now that the transgressors have come to the full? And how many even know what that means?
The Lord said to the Samaritan woman,
Joh 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. ...
Today there are many who worship they know not what...although there are many clues. Here's one and another. People have been Too Long in the Sun. The father of the sun goddess (with her arm up raised) is the moon god and he (Islam) is coming with a vengeance BEFORE the great and terrible day of the Lord!

I was in Brazil last February and had the opportunity to climb up to view Cristo Redentor. What an awesome sight and what an awesome view from atop the hill of Corcovado.

"The religious aspect (of the crucifix) doesn't really bother me, and I'm Jewish," Karen Mendelson said. "But I just don't like things sticking up in the air. And at 25 stories, it's going to be absurd looking." People said much of the same thing when the Eiffel Tower was being planned. It would block the view, it would be ugly and inconvenient. If this cross is built and becomes a cultural attraction that brings in tourists, you won't be able to find a person who was originally opposed to it.
That being said, building this cross is a great idea.

We have no songbooks in our church.
Our church is looking into getting the projector system to display the songs on a screen.
On the plus side...
People will be looking UP, and not singing DOWN onto the floor,
No 'additions' will be needed in the bulletins, if we sing a song NOT in the hymnal,
They won't wear out,
The cleaning folks won't have to put them back into the holders,
Little kids won't 'accidentally' tear up the pages,
Random 'thumps' won't occur from them falling onto the floor during the sermon.
On the minus side...
The ones I've seen merely show the words - not the music. If you are a SATB, you'd best have the music memorized from somewhere,
There will be less (none) of looking thru the book for your favorite hymns.
As our world changes that we are trying to reach with the Gospel, our methods will change to adequately meet their need, while still ministering to our present congregation.
Change the method, but NOT the message.

Change the method, but NOT the message. Agreed. We began going to a church which sold its organ and now has a professional quality P/W band with drums, electric guitar, etc.
It was a much needed change for me. The old hymnals do bring back memories, but the modern music is better for me [and better for visitors].

Preaching with art is still preaching!
"When I came to you, brothers, proclaiming the mystery of God, I did not come with sublimity of words or of wisdom. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. " (I Corinthians 2:1-2)

Or better yet, an empty tomb. The Body of Christ still suffers.

"For Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but
we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength." - I Corinthians 1:22-25

Mr. Monaghan puts a up a very Chisto-centric (Christ -centered) Christmas light display with 3 million lights along this same highway. He calls it the "St. Nicholas Light Display". People pay $9/car to drive through it up close and he raises thousands of dollars for charities - many of which are not Catholic.

His sacrifice, however, is complete. He is no longer on the cross but having provided the sacrifice said "It is Finished" and now sits at the right hand of the Father. Hebrews 10:10-12.
To: 11th Earl of Mar
Just as long as it's not one of those "Resurrected Christ" things.
To: DittoJed2
Then, in your estimation, Corinthians needs to be tossed???
Long after Christ publicly uttered the words "it is finished" from the cross I suppose Paul was wrong to "proclaim Christ crucified" (I Cor 1) and "know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified" (I Cor 2)?
