Part of transcript from Fox News:
Rumsfeld: This is dated 11/13, so it was probably on or about that period.
Q: How many -- ?
Rumsfeld: We are literally -- I have seen drop orders that included saddles, bridles and horse feed.
Q: So what does that say about how things are being fought in Afghanistan?
Rumsfeld: It says that we have some terrific young people.
I am forced to admit that I absolutely ADORE Donald Rumsfeld. This is a man who knows what to say, and when. He knocks me out!

There's a site that plays the midi http://www.contemplator.com/folk/gowen.mid I'm sure some smart HTML type can do something with that.
Let Bacchus' sons be not dismayed But join with me, each jovial blade Come, drink and sing and lend your aid To help me with the chorus:
Chorus Instead of spa, we'll drink brown ale And pay the reckoning on the nail; No man for debt shall go to jail From Garryowen in glory.
We'll beat the bailiffs out of fun, We'll make the mayor and sheriffs run We are the boys no man dares dun If he regards a whole skin.
Chorus
Our hearts so stout have got no fame For soon 'tis known from whence we came Where'er we go they fear the name Of Garryowen in glory. Chorus |

"This sort of national support for and enthusiasm over our military must be a really bitter pill for the Democrat party." Actually, I doubt that Sam Nunn, Zell Miller, or John Breaux mind (but for most of the rest of 'em, you're probably correct)...

Advertising in threads (OT): I don't mind a very short, well identified, text link.
What I don't like is distracting graphics and misleading links.
Evidently the moderators agree somewhat -- the posts are gone.

As we found out in Italy during WW II.sometimes you just need a mule to get where you want to go,expecially if you want to carry some freight along too.
Can anyone here guess how much munitions the VC brought down from the North on bicycles????

Thanks for the ping! I would have checked it out sooner, but technical difficulties accessing FR at work. "I've been banned" from FR at work??? ;-) Don't know what the problem is. MIS guys can't figure it out, but they will. . .
That picture, when I first saw it this afternoon on Reuters article reminded me of an old Western, perhaps "Shootout at the OK Corral"??? LOL! These guys in Af-RAM-istan are about a hunert years behind us, huh??? Special Forces will do "Whatever it takes!" to root 'em out!
God bless President Bush and the Allied Troops!

And to think that they laughed at the Polish Winged Calvary I think Stephen Ambrose wrote in one of his WWII books (Citizen Soldier?) of how effective they were.

Funny looking horses..... Probably close to the type Ghengis Kahn and the Golden Horde rode way back when. Also probably closer to the original domesticated horse, from even farther back. Look pretty sturdy and probably not nearly so flighty as some we have in the US. More like an oversized Shetland, which BTW are not nearly so nasty as most thuroughbreds or even quarter horses. None of which are anywhere near as nasty as a Camel. Which brings up the question, where is the Camel Corps?
