ISLAMABAD, 16 nov (AFP) - The mollah Omar ordered the talibans to evacuate Kandahar (southeast of Afghanistan) and to withdraw in the Afghan mountains, indicated on Friday the Afghan Islamic Presse ( AIP ) agency.

According to this agency based in Pakistan, the big town of the Afghan South, the fief of talibans and usual place of residence of the mollah Omar, will be evacuated by the fundamentalist militia " within 24 hours ".

The decision was taken after discussions which lasted several days with talibans commanders(majors) and of close co-workers of the mollah Mohammad Omar, according to AIP.

taliban may think

At this time they are not thinking. Many of their leaders are dead. Some are in hiding without communications. And the rest are so busy with their necks strained looking over their shoulder for U.S. Rangers dressed up as Pashtun that they are speechless and terrified.

There is no Taliban strategy and shortly there will be no Taliban.

Now, the terrorist network is another matter entirely. They are in many nations and have sleepers in place in the United States that could act at any time with or without orders.

But the Taliban--they are toast.

"Personally, I don't think Osama, or the Talibums care what the rest of the world thinks, that's part of the nature of fanatics. It wouldn't surprise me if they had a boobytrap somewhere"

I can't be sure, of course, but at least some of the Talibums are political animals. Look at the successful propaganda campaign they ran.

The wallabee walhabists wasnt to rule the world. That'll take political animals. It's hard to take over a country when the entire world hates you. So, yes, I think that at least some of them might be interested in what the Arab world, at least, thinks.

The really insane, lunatic fringe - of course, the whole Talibans is the lunatic fringe - of the Taliban might try something. They seem pretty undisciplined. I doubt their "leaders" could control them, even if they wanted to.

"I don't think the Taliban give a flip about the civilians in Afghanistan. If there is some sort of large attack on the US planned, the Taliban would simply slither off into the rocks to save their own skins. I don't think they'd give much thought to the civilians."

Right. They weren't too interested in the safety of the civilians when they were killing them before.

we are the most powerful country in the entire world
Have faith in your God, family, country, and the men and women in our armed forces . . . we will prevail!

Of course we will prevail. The Taliban will be just another roving band of robbers creating problems in creating a stable Afghanistan. Maybe it's just the contrast. The US military is so good at strategic planning. It seems impossible to me that their strategy is nonexistant.

I reported the Wells Fargo incident and yesterday I called the FBI for my daughter but since she didn't have a license plate number they said they couldn't do anything more than report it as "suspicious activity". However I told them she thought she could identify the make of the car and that would be a way to track them down but they didn't ask more about this. I've got a camera in my front seat in case I see anything more and so does she.

"This is not something that would normally be announced. "

Agreed. If the report is true, maybe Omar is hoping that the NA will wait to attack the retreating forces instead of assaulting their defrensive positions now. This stalling tactic may be to give Omar time to slip out, leaving his soldiers behind to be massacared

Hmmm. The AP news item...
10:33 PST ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) -- Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar has agreed to leave his headquarters at Kandahar and turn over the southern Afghan city to two local Pashtun leaders, the Afghan Islamic Press said Friday. The Pakistan-based agency said Omar agreed to leave Kandahar within 24 hours and head for the mountains following discussions with "close friends and army commanders."
...doesn't quite jibe with the AFP article. Both seem to be quoting AIP...

So is Mullah Omar in Kandahar or not? This article from yesterday claimed that Omar was in Kunduz...

Mulla Omar is in Kunduz, reliable informed sources

Dushanbe, Nov 15, IRNA -- Taliban leader Mulla Mohammad Omar is in the northern Kunduz province, the deputy ambassador of the Afghanistan Islamic government to Tajikistan Mohyuddin Mahdi told IRNA here Thursday citing reliable informed sources.

He said he was unaware of further details, but reiterated the authenticity of the news could be vouchsafed.

On the other hand, I can't help having a nagging feeling that the Taliban might be up to something.

He is. He's up to losing.

I Agree. They're up to something, and anticipating our response to whatever they have planned before they even carry it out. These people are too crazy to be running scared or giving up this easy.

What remains to be seen is can we effectively seal off resupply

If the Taliban-Al Queada forces expect to exist for weeks or months in cave locations, we may not need to lay siege or worry about resupply. Our infared and heat sensitive survellience should be able to locate any concentrated numbers of the enemy. I saw a report today that pointed out a B-1 bomber could drop up to 27 bunker-buster bombs at once at one target. Each bomb can penetrate 50 to 100 ft. prior to exploding, depending on the conditions of the terrain. We have the 2,000 lb. and 5,000 lb. varieties equipped with precise guidance systems. I don't see how any cave complex could survive such an attack.

If we can find them, we can kill them.

***Will this war ever end?***

Are you aware it's been only a matter of weeks we've been IN the war? Do you expect it to be over in days? Sheesh.
