How many A-10's do we still have? Would they be used in Afghanistan? Did the Russians have anything like this then? Do the TALIBUMS have anything to counter them?

Ah yes, who can forget the fierce Iraqi Republican Guard, the Pride of the Mother of All Pansies.
In a fight against the Armed Forces of the USA, this is how the Taliban will look--as will any and all enemies of the USA, when engaged in battle against us.
Yeah, I know the war we are going to fight is totally different, but we WILL destroy the enemy--whomever and wherever he is.

Flame me if you want, but in my opinion that "Highway of Death" was one of the low points in U.S. history. When I saw General Colin Powell on television explaining why the U.S. felt a need to attack a column of civilian vehicles like that, I wanted to see him tried as a war criminal.

Hey, good pics. I have a few but I don't know how to post them. Guess I better go to HTML bootcamp.

Excuse me but you are horribly mistaken. That was the Iraqi army in civilian vehicles in full retreat. The only civilians that were in Kuwait were Kuwaitis and they were not on that highway. I hope that this clears up a ten year old misunderstanding.
To: Shooter 2.5
If I am horribly mistaken, then Powell was, too. Even he admitted at the time that most of the casualties were civilians.
To: Alberta's Child
yeah right! you're flamed!
To: Shooter 2.5
It's also worth noting that based on the U.S. plan in Iraq there was no reason to bomb "military personnel in civilian vehicles" that were fleeing, since the U.S. obviously had no intention of pursuing them all the way to Baghdad.

I don't recall his explanation, but as I recall the incident, they were being driven by Iraqi soldiers who were trying to escape to Iraq, basically because our armed forces had destoyed many of their trucks and tanks, they had to steal civilian vehicles...many of which was loaded with valuables and personal items that they looted from the civilians of Kuwait before trying to flee.

You will have to provide a link to back that up. It's the reason that the Kuwaitis never cleaned the area up for a reminder of the losses of the Iraqi army.
To: lowbridge
Trust me, his explanation was about as lame as Bill Clinton's grand jury testimony. Especially when he was asked which war conventions permitted the indiscriminate bombing of people fleeing the scene (as opposed to capturing them, since they were no longer a threat).
To: Shooter 2.5
The Kuwaitis never cleaned the place up because they never clean anything up. If someone else doesn't do the sh!t work for them, it doesn't get done. Which is why they are despised in the Arab world.
Upon further thought, though, I realize that Powell did not refer to the people in this column as "civilians," but as "non-combatants." I understand there is a difference, but even he was forced to admit that the U.S. had no business destroying that column.
To: Alberta's Child
The plan of attack was that one wing of our forces was supposed to cut them off in their line of retreat and bottle them up. Swarzekoff[sp] was furious that the left was slowed which stopped the plan.
Where do you get this idea that you stop fighting just because you won the first battle of a war?
