I will NEVER accept such a national ID card. This is a knee-jerk reaction which will not prevent terrorism but will reduce our liberties. What is the case for such a card? They talk about the card but make no real argument for it that makes sense. BEWARE OF THIS!!!!

These numbskulls just can't seem to understand one little detail here: Such an ID card is only worthwhile if a Bad Guy can't get one or if it's impossible to counterfeit.

Anyone wanna bet their freedom on the above? I don't, either.

Why is it they don't think of these things??

Shoot, folks.........some of these terrorists had Social Security cards. One was a military (Special Forces) veteran. Hel-loooooo????

Nope. Count me out for The Card. Next thing you know, they'll co-opt AmEx's tag line: "Don't leave home without it!"

These men are stupid. How in the hell would you implement it? ANd shouldn't they be doing other things?

Next, we'll see them trying to get the guns out of the street to make the cities of the US as safe as Kabul. After all, acc'dg to liberals I've heard, the one good thing the Taliban did was to get the guns out of the streets, to make the streets safer.

Duly freeped Denny's Email. We already have a National ID card, It is the Social Security Card. Absolutely no need for another. I'm betting that soon though, it will turn into a picture ID, and it will be demanded by "any controlling legal authority".

Well, I support some sort of identity card. I need to think it through, but given today's circumstances, I see no other choice.

Somebody needs to inform Bush and his friends on Capitol Hill that the government's foremost responsibility is to protect our freedoms, not to take them away under the guise of "making us more secure." There are many bureacrats and law-and-order types in government who are eager to snoop on American citizens. Either through deliberance or ignorance, they are creating the trappings of a police state.

We must oppose them on all fronts.

While I am not for a national ID card, it is still better than having one stamped on our forehead or hand. We will never secure our borders. Why gosh, clerks in grocery stores and other stores could even ask for it before seling you anything. What I think we should be looking at is trying to make sure in this war we are waging that senators and congressmen and mayors and governors who have sons the right age for serving do serve. That would be the only reason I would be against a war. If it isn't one and equal it isn't an American war, it's a war of the classes.

The simple answer is, I am not state or government property!

I would rot in prison before accepting a National I.D. Card!

If this ever comes to pass you can just change the name of the country from USA to USSA.

Nobody has mentioned the next step of incramental personal destruction, the issuance of the UN ID card.

Pay VERY close attention to the "solutions" being offered by those in government: They are NOT talking about REMOVING the limitations they have ALREADY placed on our individual Second Amendment right to DEFEND OURSELVES. They are beginning to talk about FURTHER RESTRICTIONS on our liberties and MORE GOVERNMENT! More GOVERNMENT? The same GOVERNMENT that failed to ENFORCE EXISTING IMMIGRATION LAWS? The same GOVERNMENT that knew foreign nationals from known terrorist states with ties to bin Laden were attending flight schools here and did nothing. The same GOVERNMENT that failed so miserably in its obligation to protect citizens that 7,000 of them died like cattle in a slaughterhouse on September 11th? THAT GOVERNMENT??

Is this the same GOVERNMENT NOW ON THE VERGE OF PROPOSING NATIONAL ID CARDS?? </font color=red>

I've often thought that, if it happens, the country will be sold into fullblown socialism not by the Democrats and the left, but by so-called "conservatives." They're the only ones who could do it. Wolves in sheeps' clothing all.

As far as I'm concerned these control freaks can "consider" it all they want, but if they try to foist it on me, they will quite literally have to jail me (or kill me) first.

We'll see what happens.

With all these new legislation proposals...limiting our freedom and liberties, if they become reality....I will then have NO choice but to question everything coming out of DC is questionable.

Clinton: "Never leave home without it, hawh hawh."
*

* OK, that pic is not really related. Actual caption: President Clinton holds up his smart card that enables his electronic signature Friday, June 30, 2000 in Philadelphia. Clinton signed a bill Friday giving an online "John Hancock" the same legal validity as a signature in pen and ink. He signed the legislation electronically, but did it first the old-fashioned way as well.(AP Photo/Ron Edmonds)
