Bush not asking for Declaration of War
President George W. Bush

Posted on 09/12/2001 8:04:51 AM PDT by Heisenburger

We all just saw Bush on TV talking about investigating this tragedy and generally pussy-footing around the issue. What Bush is forgetting is that we are sure of who has done this, and there is no reason anymore for investigations. If Bush will not ask Congress for a Declaration of War against Afghanistan, I say Congress should force his hand by passing such a declaration immediately.

I wish you and others would drop the second term BS. This is not a matter to be handled just to score political points. The fact of the matter is that we do not yet have the resources in the area to engage in full scale war. Lobbing a few missles may appease some of you for the time being, but it will not get the job done. We'll have to go in and root the bastards out. That takes, time, troops, and equipment. They are not there yet.

Yes you can. We can declare war on terrorism and wherever that may be. Just as Thomas Jefferson did against the Barbary Pirates...hence the words "Shores of Tripoli."

Fox news reported that they have identified two of the terrorists that took over that plane that crashed near Pittsburgh and they were connected to Osama bin Laden.

Good idea, in essence. -- I have long been in favor of returning to the bounty principle to control international terrorists/war criminals. --- Several hundred million on bin ladens head, delivered to the Hague, would get results.

Lets hope they declare themselves in name,

That's just it - I think many of them have done just that. There already is a world war going on - it's called Jihad

Cordially,

We should all be thanking the Lord that Al Gore isn't president right now.

I have been, and am also grateful that his boss is no longer in charge either.

"What piece of hard evidence do you have to offer here in open forum that Kabul particularly planned or directed this attack?"

Who cares? It is common knowledge that Afgan supports and shields terrorists. That should be more then enough reason to justify action against them. Dido the PLO, Iraq and Iran. If action is not taken soon, very soon then Americans will come to see themselves as defenceless in a dangerious world. The world will come to see us as incapable of acting in our national security interests.

Our enemy is the nation of Islam, Islam has declar a holy war against the "great satan". They have attacked us time and time again. And NEVER paid a price. More of the same (by us) will lead to more of the same (by them).

You're right it will take time. I posted this in another thread but it fits in this one as well.

I held my nose, closed my eyes and voted for Bush, and if I don't like things he does, I'll say so, but in this he is doing ok. He said we'll track them down. We already know that some of these terrorists trace back to Osama bin Laden, and the United Arab Emirates.

When Saddam attacked Kuwait, it took 8 months to get our military in position to retaliate to Saddam for his acts, and I suspect that it will take us a few months too, to be in a position to do the same. I suspect that we will declare war against terrorists, just as we declared war against the Barbary pirates many years ago. The precedent has been set that you do not need to declare war against a country or nation.

It is unthinkable that the US will let these acts of terrorism go unpunished. Think about it. The US goes to the assistance of other nations all the time, and we retaliated against Iraq to assist Kuwait. We had better retaliate then, when it is our own people who are the targets. As I said, it is unthinkable that we will not. But, like with striking against Saddam took time, so will this. jmo

"No warnings. If the evidence points to Bin Laden, then nuke Kabul and every Taliban held city in Afghanistan. If Iraqi support to this attack is shown (or it's known that they supported the previous attacks on the towers), then nuke Baghdad and every major city in Iraq. Our cry should be no quarter."

I think this is a little extreme. Nukes should limited to military targets. "Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war".

If he acts effectively, he will get reelected. If he acts ineffectively ("This is just a bigger bombing, we shouldn't over-react...") then McCain (who I hate and despise) will be the next president of the US on a "kill them all, God will find his own" platform. And I'll send him all the money I can afford.

Until we know, I support President Bush. But he'd better do something important, fast. For the country, for the world.

Ollie North was on Fox last night. According to him, congress in the past with a reccommendation from the president (I think he said John Quincy Adams) had decared war on the barbary pirates. They were the equivalent of a terriorist group. I think Bush should have declared war against all know terrorist groups. The precedent is already there for doing such.

I thought they said Lincoln. But I have seen Teddy Roosevelt mentioned too so who knows. I guess the important thing is that a precedent has been established.

Bush and the US must declare war on all known teerorist organization and their client states.

To not do so is political suicide and a sign of weakness. Screw a coalition and screw waiting for allies

I saw that same program last nite with Col. North, and he did indeed state that the precedent was already there, with declaring war on the Barbary Pirates....I think we have no choice, but to declare war on any terrorist groups and the host countries which aid and shelter them...

If we let this go on with no retaliation, we will be seen as weak, and willing to take even more terrorism...
