I can roughly quote William Cohen from his live interview on CNN within the last 10 minutes: "We are going to have to make some tough decisions in this country. We are going to have to "garbled" when making choices between security and civil liberties."

Franklin's aphorism is as good today as it was when first written, and I paraphrase, "Those who are willing to sacrifice a bit of liberty for a bit of security -- are worthy of neither."

Sorry William. That's not the "tough choice". The choice is whether to nuke Iraq, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, and Libya off the face of the planet to ensure that this never happens again. We say, "You kill 10,000 of ours. We incinerate 10,000,000 of yours." Sorry if this sounds like a "war-monger" but we need to have an overwhelming response.

He's another turncoat idiot. The way to prevent this from happening again is to respond quick, respond deadly, respond with a message. Civil liberties should become stronger, not weaker.

Mr. Cohen can personally come to my place to collect my "civil liberties".
For a former Pubbie, this POS has really become a real Clintonista fascist.
He can bite my rosie-red bum.

Years ago in the USMC we used to say, "Nuke 'em All and let God sort 'em out.

Is it time to spring the Y2K Clinton FEMA holdover mouse trap?

William Cohen? Who the hell is William Cohen? Just some has-been, idiotic, boob from a former administration whose only accomplishment was to screw the US military. To hell with him. I'm not interested in his opinion on anything.

I agree. Our response and subsequent multiple retaliations need to be so severe that thousands of years from now the decendents of our enemies still pray on their knees that America never gets mad again.

Was it scarier than watching 10000 people die?

Franklin's aphorism is as good today as it was when first written, and I paraphrase, "Those who are willing to sacrifice a bit of liberty for a bit of security -- are worthy of neither." Yes.
There are two ways to go. We do little except try and catch specific individuals involved and make the US a police state to stop future acts.
Or we completely re-organize our national defense, security and international relations.
We can bring it out to those who are part of this enemy axis and stop it. That means US military presence and action in the world.
Or we can become a police state ourselves.
I am glad Cohen and his crew are no longer in power. We know what he would choose.

A worrisome thought isn't it!

We can all thank the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, William Kuntsler, et.al for defanging all of the intelligence agencies, both military and law enforcement.
These people used the veil of religious freedom to ban all surveillance of suspected terrorists groups.

I hope one of those decisions is "Do we make it tougher to get into this country?"
These were domestic flights which means these terrorists were IN this country when they boarded the planes.

I agree with you and Wyatt. Lets go after our enemys. We know who they are. We need to do this right now.
To: libertarian_usa
Actually, William, just let us carry our guns whenever and wherever we please. Protection against terrorists and tyrants alike.
To: Wyatt's Torch
It is time to unleash (either a totally American or maybe with a few trusted neighbors) a dedicated band of anti-terrorists to wipe out every one of these deranged Muslim/Islam fanatics.
If we get a few by mistake....TS.
Screw this "bring them to justice" bullshit.
I want the bastards dead!
How can they believe that there is a God who welcomes as martyrs those who kills thousands of innocent civilians?

And I can't imagine there'll be many Americans not supporting it. This is beyond horrible. Expand your list to Saudi Arabia and the other oil countries that have financed these monsters.

I'm not interested in his opinion on anything.I'm not interested in his opinion in that it has no impact now on national security.
I am concerned, however, that this nation once had him as Defense Secretary, and if we had an Al Gore as President today, Cohen or someone like him would be able to implement their views.
His statements now are therefore a cautionary tale of what could have been, and what could yet be.
