I am concerned, however, that this nation once had him as Defense Secretary, and if we had an Al Gore as President today, Cohen or someone like him would be able to implement their views.
His statements now are therefore a cautionary tale of what could have been, and what could yet be.

They talk the talk of cutting waste but we all know that the line soldier will suffer before Trent Lott gives up his systems that the Pentagon insists it doesn't need. At least Clinton and Cohen didn't promise pie in the sky for the military. I'll be interested in hearing your moans in six months when you see what plays out as they squeeze the serviceman to the bone in order to preserve hardware deals for campaign contributors.
