Ruby Rippey-Gibney — the former San Francisco City Hall aide whose affair with Gov. Gavin Newsom nearly upended his political career — will tell her side of the story for the first time in an upcoming Vanity Fair piece, The California Post has learned.
Details of the piece remain unclear, but a source familiar with the matter said Rippey-Gibney intends to recount her perspective on the affair that rocked San Francisco politics in 2007 and has remained one of the most embarrassing moments in then-mayor of San Francisco Newsom’s life and career. The story comes as Newsom is widely expected to launch a 2028 presidential campaign after terming out of the governor’s office next year.

The scandal dominated headlines across the country not only because Rippey-Gibney — who has since remarried — was married to one of Newsom’s closest political allies, but also because she worked directly for the mayor, raising questions about the power dynamics of a relationship between an elected official and a subordinate employee. As the fallout mounted, Newsom announced he was giving up alcohol and said he would seek professional help.

If I remember correctly, his approval rating among women jumped, although it dipped a little with men.
Also, is the alcohol angle of this story completely made up. I don't think there has ever been a hint that he had an alcohol problem. Did he make that up as an excuse?
There were rumors of a cocaine problem.
As much as I dislike Newsom, this is a trashy thing to do.
It’s too much hair gel Gavin.
>> this is a trashy thing to do.
About what I would expect from this amoral crowd —
But don’t forget...”trashy” is what much of politics is all about.
Well, at least it was a woman.
50 years ago that would be a given. But now…
“don’t think there has ever been a hint that he had an alcohol problem. Did he make that up as an excuse?”
Lol
Which came first..the alcoholism or the dyslexia!?
Seriously??? The democrats would jump on ANYTHING a republican gets accused of and never look back. Vipers.....all
“ If I remember correctly, his approval rating among women jumped”
As it did again when he was caught, no mask, eating at the French Laundry when dining out in California was not allowed.
Newsom has one of the largest gender gaps in the history of American politics, F>>M.
He has great hair and knows all the best restaurants.
What does that tell you?
This will help him in the Party.
He could be the next Jonathan Edwards if the rumors are true.
Throw it out there again and then play the ‘that’s old news card’ .
Move on. Con
I dont'remember this at all. At least it was a heterosexual affair.
I don't remember reading his approval rating then, but I do after the affair with his best friend.
I remember it very well. He was still married to Kimberly Gullifoyle. The woman he was having an affair with was his best friend and campaign manager’s wife.
When I saw the author of this was Ruby “Rippey“ Gibney, I thought for sure that, given Chuck Schumer’s activities in the floor of the Senate with flatulence today, that they were talking about him!
I don’t think people should have inappropriate affairs, get caught, and then gossip about it in front of the whole world - often doing it for money.
The whole story will probably be her exoneration of herself.
Is there anything about this slimy man that is good. I’ve never seen it. He should make us all feel dirty.
She isn’t the author of the article, she is the affair partner.
