Trump Says U.S. Will Withdraw ‘A Lot’ More Than 5,000 President Donald Trump has said that far more troop reductions are in the offing after the Pentagon announced on Friday that some 5,000 U.S. soldiers would be withdrawn from bases in Germany over the coming year.
“We’re going to cut way down. And we’re cutting a lot further than 5,000.”
The U.S. leader had previously planned to bring back around 9,500 soldiers from Germany during his first term in office; however, his successor, Joe Biden, reversed the decision before it could be enacted. At present, approximately 36,000 troops are stationed in Germany and around 80,000 across Europe.

Whe have to keep the troops in West Germany to keep the Soviets from crossing the Berlin Wall and the Fulda Gap and marching to the Rhine?
What? The Wall was torn down? USSR collapsed and disolved? Thirty-five years ago? The Fulda Gap was a cheap store in a mall which has since closed?

You do know that the largest US military hospital outside CONUS is in Landstuhl?
You know that right?
And that several of the injured from the war with Iran were medivac’d to Landstuhl?

Just what we need, 36,000 expats returning home after 25 years in Germany with their 36,000 foreign women wives and who knows how many children. The next immigration wave to hit the entitlement lottery. Registered Democraps all. It’s a myth the military tit produces conservatives.

Has anybody told your President that American troops are in Germany for a reason? After starting two world wars... You just can't trust the Germans... That's why American forces are entrenched in Germany.

Isn’t Rammstein all that’s left?
I know Heidelberg and Mannheim are gone, and Coleman was a dump before we left. Bush was pulling everyone out when the protests started after 9-11.
What’s left?

At one time it was important for the United States to maintain a series of coastal forts. No longer. The threat has passed.
Same goes with US troops in Europe.

When you’re stationed overseas, it’s not for LIFE, LOL!
Troops are ROTATED through various posts, overseas and CONUS. Usually a 3 year tour, or whatever you agree to and sign up for based upon your MOS. (Military Occupational Specialty)
How do I know? I was one of them!
Bringing the troops home is NOT the problem you might fear it will be.

Nice graphic. Thanks.
“Unspecified Overseas” is huge. There is no Israel dot.
It’d also be nice to see dollar dots in a second graphic.
I generally like the idea of fewer people deployed, fewer dollars spent overseas. What to do about US bases?

Why is Guam considered overseas? It is a U.S. Territory. Ditto Puerto Rico.
Hawaii is similarly overseas, but it is not listed.

80,000 military personnel in Europe. That's a lot of economic spending and stimulus, which would be hard to replace. Then, comes the bases, which are a lot more economic stimulus. Not to mention the huge savings to those countries where they get free defense, courtesy of the U.S. And then, there are the huge number of employees from Europe who get to work at the bases, and the other perhaps larger number of businesses who serve all the American soldiers. IN Germany alone, the stimulus and savings must run the billions per year.
Don't mess with America, or you'll have to provide for yourself!
