US President Donald Trump has doubled down on his demand that countries that need oil should help combat Iran's efforts to shut the Strait of Hormuz.
Just hours after saying he hopes the UK, China and other nations will send warships, Trump said in a post on Truth Social countries 'that receive Oil through the Hormuz Strait must take care of that passage'.
On Thursday, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei vowed to keep blocking the strait, which is a key trade artery for around 20 per cent of the world's oil.
It comes after Trump said last night that the US had 'totally obliterated' all military targets in 'Iran's crown jewel', Kharg Island.
Iran retaliated by striking a major oil hub in the UAE, with plumes of black smoke seen billowing into the skies above the port of Fujairah following a drone attack today.
Former Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki, has also threatened to 'capture' US forces if they make an attempt to seize oil infrastructure in Kharg Island.

It’s up to Japan, India, S Korea and the Arab states to secure and occupy the straights.
We can get it going, but, long term it’s their problem.
Iran’s chief oil customer is communist China. For weapons (and money for more weapons).
Do we want communist Chinese military in charge of the straight of Hormuz?
I think not
“If no one else assists, the US can start seizing and selling Iranian oil from Kharg Island as reimbursement.”
Great idea. Maybe that’s what Trump told them.
Not to mention England, France, Spain, and Germany(?). It ticks me off that Britania used to rule the waves and now they're down to one destroyer and it took a week before it could set sail.
It seems we have to do EVERYTHING!
I agree. I think a lot of this operation also has to do with the CCP threat.
How do you propose we sell the oil as long as the Strait is closed?

Just an FYI. Oil gets there via pipeline from the coast and inland. It has a mainland shutoff valve. It’s not on top of an oil field.
Japan cannot conduct offensive operations due to its constituation.
Trump turned down Britain’s help a week or two ago.
The media hysteria is annoying. The 80s tanker war damaged 450 ships. Navies everywhere escorted their own cargoes, because they needed the oil. After initial hesitation and big rate hikes, shippers ventured in, providing war zone pay and survivor benefits to sailors lost. Even in war zones, commerce keeps going, with price increases providing the risk premiums needed for civilians to risk their lives and cargoes. Meanwhile, Uncle Sam uses every launch site as a bulls-eye, sends the perps to meet their 72 Virginians.
we dont need the oil, we are oil exporters. And we can limit the increases to our gas prices by simply outlawing export of oil again, like it used to be.
Those countries who care can guard the straight.
Why does other countries will help? Our own Navy refused to escort ships.
Today’s Navy is not the WW II Navy. The Navy back then took care of tough assignments.
No offense, but reading this kind of retardation on FR has become embarrassing.
Kharg Island is an oil terminal, not a giant oil well that produces a billion barrels of oil an hour. Seizing it to sell its oil is like seizing your local supermarket to sell groceries for the next ten years. You won't get a delivery of a single product to restock your store shelves after the first two hours.

The Brzeziński "regent" of the world doctrine ( The Grand Chessboard, 1999 ) and similar views are rooted in the history of Carter and subsequent Democrat administrations, alongside the "nation building" stance which led us to war against the Taliban for nineteen years only to return it to them "after." ( A Biden fiasco. )
For a time now we've enjoyed the EU's "Coalition of the Willing" being willing to do something AFTER we do and AFTER a ceasefire.
President Trump is adeptly saying that those who want access to Iran's oil reserves as well as those of the Sunni Middle East would do well to -- as the adage goes -- "put up, or shut up."
Iran has antiship missiles stationed all around that area. Trump just needs to declare victory and get us the hell out of there before we get in any deeper.
IMHO, its a master PR and negotiating strategy by Trump
China needs the oil. But will they intervene in the Gulf, together with the USA and others, to suppress / contain their ally Iran? As far as Iran is concerned, they can't conduct strikes if their patron China is part of the escort teams for ships.
Trump wins by bringing peace and an "international coalition" to contain Iran
Further to that, China is heavily invested in Iran. The present regime, now nearly 50 years old and on shaky ground, is about as favorable as China will get In Iran. Any new regime, even a moderate faction, will distance itself from China.
So Trump wins if/when any new regime comes to power, and China loses
So China is in a pickle, and Trump understands they may say "No, we won't participate." OK then, China. You'll have to live with the continued chaos and disruption to oil flows.
So again, Trump may not win in this scenario, but China loses
And President Trump is 100% correct on everything
China’s oil is already getting through (as it’s coming from Iran) so there’s no need for China to be there. Iran is just blocking tankers leaving from other countries.
