The Supreme Court struck down the majority of President Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs in February, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren isn’t letting the Administration weasel out of paying back American taxpayers.
“If your Administration is successful in its campaign to avoid paying back illegally collected tariffs, it would amount to a theft in broad daylight from each and every American family that has paid the price of your failed economic agenda,” Warren said in a Wednesday statement. Per her office’s estimates, the tariffs have cost families about $1,700 each.
The Supreme Court on February 20 ruled against the tariffs 6-3, arguing that President Trump — stop us if this shocks you — exceeded the economic powers granted to him by Congress under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). As part of the ruling, the majority said that the federal government should refund companies that bore the brunt of the tariffs, estimated at about $200 billion last year, per U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.
The Administration responded by levying a new, 10% global tariff, set to increase to 15%, under a new legal justification that will quite likely again be challenged in court. But the Administration last week asked a lower court to delay processing the refunds by at least 90 days, while they try and ram legislation through the Republican-controlled Congress that would provide stronger legal cover for the tariffs, ahead of the midterms.

Donald Trump is a thief?! That’s rich coming from a woman who lied about her heritage!
If only President Trump had funneled billions through USAID, then everything would have been just hunky dory.
More proof , as if any more were needed , that the RATs don’t give an Adam Schiff about this country. They only want to hurt Trump in any way they can. Not bad for a President who can’t run again !
So she agrees taxation is theft.
“Donald Trump is a thief?! That’s rich coming from a woman who lied about her heritage!”
Also rich coming from a member of the democrat party whose members have ripped the taxpayers off for BILLIONS.
Take it up with the Supreme Court beyotch.
no American paid a dime in tariffs.
Source?
Elizabeth Warren standing up for rich corporations to get billions in cash.
That train has left the station. Too bad, the tariffs existed and that can’t be deleted.
But it’s rich hearing a commie Dem wailing about paying back the American taxpayer. lol.
Tariffs are paid by the wealth corporations...which I agree these costs are passed on to consumers, just like any other tax on businesses. Leftists like Warren have always advocated for higher corporate taxes because they need to “pay their fair share.”
It’s utter garbage coming from them to be making these kinds of claims.
Apart from her interminable and false accusations, this Indian wannabe is worthless. It must be hell to wake up next to her; I pity her husband.
Coming from a person who stole a cultural identity.
This is why Trump should never have launched his tariff war in the first place. We are now getting criticized by Pocahontas, of all people, for raising taxes.
Yes, Send out a $1700 cheque to every family in America called the Trump Refund just before the mid terms. If the Repukes knew how to play the game that bill would be on his desk waiting for his signature. Let the Democrats vote against it.
Trying to unroll the tariffs is a huge mess. Thanks once again, Roberts, you scumball.
The tariffs were illegally imposed, which means keeping these end user taxes would be theft.
Hell, there’s people here who believe ANY tax is theft, and tariffs are clearly a tax.
