During Pride Month Public Libraries Become Centers for Queer Resistance

RALEIGH, N.C. – Like public libraries across the country, branches in North Carolina’s capital city turn rainbow-hued each June in celebration of Pride Month. Festive book displays featuring “queer-themed” titles written for all ages – from toddlers to teens and adults – are set out for the public as innocently as if the subject in question were cooking, gardening, or personal finance.

The colorful Pride books set out by Wake County civil servants are not just a benign celebration of gay dignity, hugging couples, and gay families. RealClearInvestigation’s visits to eight of Wake County’s 23 libraries reveal that Pride Month has matured into a national political event that celebrates cross dressing, drag queens, kink, BDSM (bondage, domination, etc.), poppers (recreational drugs used at sex clubs), maschalagnia (armpit fetish), polyamory (consensual non-monogamy) and solo polyamory (don’t even ask), among other delectations of the flesh.

While librarians and their supporters consistently decry critiques of their LGBTQ advocacy as censorship, less attention has been paid to the actual content of the books the librarians promote. RCI’s review of dozens of titles on display, lots of them heavy on pictures and graphics, found some gender identity books aimed at children as young as 2 years old, and others that put LGBTQ in the vanguard of a political revolution against the capitalist patriarchy.

Among the queer histories, biographies and teen fiction, some books are written for queer-affirming families to support youngsters whose sexual interests span nonbinary pronouns, transgenderism and pansexuality. A recurring trope in these books is the glamorization of medicalized sex changes as brave and heroic, with several books featuring children proudly discussing their chest binders and displaying chest scars from top surgery.

For elementary schoolers, there’s “Gender...”

This is one reason public libraries need to be defunded. (And in the age of the internet, they really are unncecessary.) I practically grew up in school and public libraries, but eventually became aware that they are the biggest, most hypocritical censors of all as they kept vast amount of conservative/Christian material off the shelves so I was wholly ignorant of it. It’s hardly surprising that they would be leaders in the brainwashing efforts of the homosexual community.

Most homosexuals were molested as children.

They seek to normalize their behavior to achieve easier access to molest YOUR children.

Lots of kids at libraries to target.....

Libraries are a liberal scam. You can get books cheaper online or your favorite book store. Library taxes are far more than the books most households buy every year. And now that the books are often audio or e-readers, libraries rarely offer much for the services they produce. Libraries buy lots of very political books. They provide all sorts of political services like drag queen story hour. And they pay very expensive librarians to check out books or to put them back into stacks. Plus in many states these people get pensions.

My partner is collections manager for the public library system in a large Bay Area city. As such the public library each June has a display promoting books that would be of interest to gay teens. They go to great lengths to ensure nothing sexual is included. Anything considered inappropriate is removed.

I respectfully disagree. Libraries are still a valuable resource for communities. Sometimes it’s just providing a sane quiet place for people who seek respite fromgang bangers and troublemakers. Libraries also provide access to E readers and access to publishers platforms.

Most importantly, libraries don’tcensor books, contrary to popular belief.

Most libraries serve poor parts of the city where it patrons don’t have E readers or laptops.

Public libraries improve the quality of life for senior citizens on a fixed budget, who would find out it a challenge to order from Amazon-type platforms..

Public libraries make cities better.

I most emphatically oppose those conservatives who call for defunding public libraries. Bookstores these days are few and far-between, books are expensive, and not all books are online. In any case, I prefer to reading a real book as opposed to having to read screens, which eventually hurt my eyes.

I have about 15 library cards, and when I want to find a book, I find out using Worldcat.org where it might be located. I especially like the Los Angeles Public Library which retains many older books that would long ago have been "weeded" by most other public libraries.

More conservatives should be going into the library profession and seeing to it that conservative books are added to public library collections and not "weeded" out.

You can make a good argument that there are too many libraries, however. This is when local politicians enter the fray..

There actually was a study by the CRL (College and Research Libraries) that found 29% of American librarians said they are LGBTQ.

Gender Issues,” By J.V. Carmianael, Jr. in the Journal of Homosexuality v.30, no.2 (1995): pp. 11-57.

That may be true in high school libraries. But there is a huge demand for Christian themed material in public libraries.. It’s not hidden out of sight.

Libraries have attracted perverts for decades, if not longer.

Nothing new here.

Not sure ,but I would assume most victims of sexual abuse will seek treatment , either professionally or in a 12 step/group environment, to help them work through their horrific backgrounds.

So do shopping malls, sporting events, movie theaters, campgrounds, church retreats, etc. . Why single out libraries
