Taking out key leadership is very important in a vertical command and control system. Dictatorships always use this as they are afraid of their own armies and thus do not have the ability to improvise when a leader is taken out.
Take out the lieutenant in one of our platoons and a sergeant takes over immediately and carries on the fight. Take out their lieutenant and that platoon does not function well.
