Tesla’s sales in the United States fell almost 9 percent in the first three months of the year even as the overall market for electric vehicles grew, according to data compiled by a research firm.
Car buyers are moving away from Teslas and toward models like General Motors’ Chevrolet Equinox electric vehicle, which starts at around $35,000 and can travel more than 300 miles on a charge, Cox Automotive, the research firm, said in a report.
Sales of all-electric vehicles in the United States rose 11 percent during the first quarter to about 300,000 cars and light trucks, Cox said, much faster than the overall auto market, which has been flat. About 8 percent of new domestic car sales were electric, Cox said, a slight increase from 2024.
“Despite many obstacles — and what you may read elsewhere — electric vehicle sales continue to grow at a healthy pace in the U.S. market,” the firm said.
Tesla, whose chief executive is Elon Musk, still sells far more electric cars in the United States than any other automaker, accounting for 44 percent of the market, according to Cox. But its share has fallen from 51 percent a year earlier.
The decline in Tesla’s U.S. sales mirror a global slump. The company said this month that deliveries during the quarter in all markets fell 13 percent to 337,000 vehicles.
Analysts attribute the decline to Tesla’s aging selection of models; poor sales of its newest one, the Cybertruck; increasing competition...sales of the Cybertruck have not lived up to projections made by Mr. Musk. Tesla sold 6,400 Cybertruck pickups during the quarter, more than double a year earlier, when the company was still ramping up production, but just half as many as in the last three months of 2024.

Except Tesla just stopped even taking orders from Chinese due to the tariff situation.
I think EVs are junk, but I loves me some TSLA.
(go get some)
Norway is rural and not warm , yet has a lot of electric vehicles
It also isn’t putting out new models
Only fools are buying EV’s. That being said. Elon has said that those responsible for funding the protests will go to prison. Since they were planned to be violent then I am all for that.
Tesla is not just cars. They also make humanoid robots and solar panels that look like shingles. They are also developing robot taxis which could compete with Uber. Probably other products too.
Now with the low stock price is a good opportunity.
“violence works”, but only democrats can get away with it. just think what would happen in these United States of America if conservatives began using the same violence against the liberal violence and could get away with it. betting the liberal violence would cease and desist quick, fast and in a hurry. liberal activists are the major cause of violence. staunch conservatives are the cure. remember friends, “conservatives seek agreement while liberals demand compliance” L.Star
Here’s an interesting piece about why Norway leads in EVs... and also why it’s not working out that great for them.

You know, specialty jobs like graphics, or the snooty factor is much higher for Macs. And the snooty factor is off the charts for EV types, so it is a natural development.
Small, cheap EV's that seat 2 people and will hold a modicum of groceries have a place in large, crowded urban areas. Same thing with steps vans on local, short mileage routes, or something like the specialty vehicles USPS uses.
Large, heavy 4 or 5 seater cars, or strangely-shaped pickup trucks, not so much. The heavier EV's do more damage to roads, and it will be a long time before an EV owner can just jump into a Tesla or a Toyota Pious and drive cross-country without having to plan out a route based on recharging stations.
Full conversion to EV's everywhere? Yeah, sure - right after U-Haul converts their entire drive-anywhere fleet to EV's. Or the dems nationalize U-Haul.
You buy a Tesla for the software as much if not more than the fact that it’s EV.
None of these other manufacturers offer that, and they never will.
Yes
And article should have noted that Tesla is the only one that has made money selling EVs. I suspect that will remain true for many years (maybe forever).
There is very little demand for EVs that get less than 200 miles per charge. Last year California sold only 3.1K EVs with less the 200 miles range. There were ~375K EVs sold with a range over 200 miles. There were ~64K PHEVs sold.
Looking toward the future, when the used cars market gets filled with them.
If you can afford to play golf, you can afford an electric car.
Do you own one yet?
If someone can manufacture and sell whatever to a buying public, then God Bless.
My beef is that there are too many people on the roads lately, even in my neck of the woods. Need to move farther away from "civilization".
BULL!
Around here it is set by SPEEDWAY!
All other retailers of fuel are in lockstep with them.
"Stations in Indianapolis are constantly undercutting each other – essentially a price war every day," explained DeHaan. "It takes a week or so for those stations to drop their price so low that they're losing money. And then somebody will wave the white flag and they'll both raise their price again." That's when we get socked with sticker shock at the gas pump as gas stations reset their prices to a more profitable level. Please get back to us with the price of new batteries.
I’ve got to admit that ACCELERATION is a nerve tingler!
I see your point, but really, they ain’t the SAME people.
