Chicago: Suspect on Loose After Retired PD Sergeant Shot Multiple Times

One suspect is in custody and a second remains on the loose after a retired Chicago police sergeant was shot multiple times Monday morning.

WGN-TV reported the retired sergeant, a 74-year-old man, was exiting his vehicle around 9 a.m.

The retired sergeant sustained at least three gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

One suspect in the shooting was apprehended Monday around 1 p.m. the Chicago Sun-Times quoted Ald. Matt Martin (47th) saying police are “continuing to search for the second individual.”

The Sun-Times noted that the incident “unfolded as mourners began to gather on the South Side at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel for the funeral of Officer Enrique Martinez, who was killed this month in an on-duty shooting.”

One thing (among many) that bothers me about this story is the time. Such shootings usually used to happen after midnight. Now they happen at all hours of the day.

In my neck of the woods, an older fellow was shot and robbed as he was going into an apartment building to visit a friend. It happened around noon. The old guy survived, and the gunman was caught.

The gunman was an illegal alien.

Just another result of the Biden/Harris administration. Thank goodness Trump won this November. Otherwise…I don’t even want to think about it.

You are misreading the scant details of the article. The two locations are 16 miles apart.

The retired cop shot at 2000 West Berteau Avenue, while the funeral was at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 S Western Ave, Chicago.

I once had an Uber driver that was retired NYC police and we chatted a bit and she told me she'd been shot on three seperate occasions, the first one was a shoulder, the second chest but recovery not too bad. The third though was brutal, years of rehab and PTSD and she's still effected every day. She actually tried to stay on the force but after a month or so realized she was just to traumatized to go on and retired. She was a wonderful lady and spite of her trauma she had a seemingly permanent smile and laugh at the ready, and her story really makes me think about how dangerous going into the belly of the beast every day really is, and how we much we really need the people who are willing to do it even after numerous close calls.

My prayers to this retired Sarge and his family. Not just for his physical recovery, which of course I pray for, but for what comes after.
