Revered abolitionist Harriet Tubman, who was the first woman to oversee an American military action during a time of war, was posthumously awarded the rank of general on Monday.

> From what I’m reading, she was never in the military. <
I suppose you could call Tubman an auxiliary of the Union Army. She never formally enlisted. But she scouted for the Union, and was certainly present at a military operation, the raid on Combahee Ferry.

Afterwards she tended to Union wounded in Virginia. Her work with the Union Army was certainly not insignificant.
There is another real JOKE Colonel House. More like Col. Tom Parker and Elvis!!
I’ll give Harriet Tubman more respect as a General than I ever will believing Tampon Tim carried a weapon in war and retired as Command Sergeant Major.
She was made a one-star general in the Maryland National Guard, if that makes any difference.
Kamala will now be on the Billion dollar bill
Put me down for Nov. 12, 2035 for the usual groups to spray paint it.
Or that Kamala Harris ever worked at MacDonald’s.
If Rachael Levine can go from a civilian one day to a four star Admiral the next, I suppose they can make Harriet Tubman a General. At least Harriet Tubman has some accomplishments to her name.
Elvis’ manager was a “Kenrucky colonel” also, right?
revisionist history like 1931 in germany
> revisionist history like 1931 in Germany <
I’m not quite sure what you’re getting at there. But all history is revisionist to some extent. For one thing, it’s the victors who write the history books.
Anyway, I stand by everything I said about Tubman. But I could be wrong. If so, please offer a specific correction. And I’m serious about that. Because when I’m corrected it’s a chance to learn something new.
I don’t know the whole story, but it sure sounds like a mistake to me.
Whooo-Hooo
Tubman is ok with me.
A real hero, she was a gun toting Republican that shot Democrats, can’t get better than that.

And her family turned and asked for her pension.
Did Harriet Tubman really “need” more recognition? This isn’t about Tubman, who was a remarkable woman. It’s about how silly people are today, always needing to “hype” stuff because we’ve made the ordinary extraordinary; and the truly extraordinary starts to pale in comparison. So that needs to be boosted ever higher.
The gal that helped plan a terrorist attack on the Federal arsenal at Harper's Ferry?
Not a good idea to honor her. She was engaged in insurrection.
Women couldn't vote until 1919. She also helped plan and supply the raid on Harper's Ferry to seize the government arsenal there and arm the slaves for a massive slave revolt. Had she been successful, the backlash would likely have resulted in the deaths of thousands if not tens of thousands of slaves.
She was supposed to be there herself, but plead illness the day they launched the attack.
Insurrection is only bad when people we don’t like do it.
