A sheriff's office lieutenant in Ohio is receiving a lot of backlash after writing on social media that he would not protect people who voted for Kamala Harris.
Clark County Sheriff’s Office Lt. John Rodgers made several comments in since-deleted Facebook posts viewed by WHIOstating "I am sorry. If you support the Democrat Party I will not help you" and "The problem is that I know which of you supports the Democratic Party and I will not help you survive the end of days."
Some posts had been shared more than 250,000 times and another suggested people would need to "provide proof of who you voted for" if they wanted his help.
Chief Deputy Mike Young sent a statement to WHIO about the department's investigation into the posts and emphasized that Rodgers' comments "in no means reflect the Clark County Sheriff's Office delivery of service to ALL our community and does not reflect the mission and values of the Sheriff's Office."
The community has a right to be upset over the actions of Lt. Rodgers and he, as well as the Sheriff’s Office in general, will have to work even harder to replenish the trust of members of our community,” the statement continued.
An investigative file reviewed by WHIO referenced possible medical issues influencing Rodgers' actions.
In inter-office communication with his supervisors, Rodgers wrote, "I do not remember writing these posts or deleting any posts" and stated he had been prescribed medicine for a sleeping disorder.
It does cause some of my communication to be ‘out of character’ which is a documented side effect," Rodgers wrote. The lieutenant shared a letter with the Springfield News-Sun where he apologized for his actions.
"I know I cannot apologize enough, and my apologies may seem empty, but I will continue to apologize as long as necessary,” Rodgers wrote in part.
According to the department, Rodgers received a written reprimand for violating the department's social media policy and will remain on duty.
Rodgers has been with the Clark County Sheriff's Office since February 2002 and is a certified Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy instructor, his bio states.
GOOD FOR HIM
Regardless, a law enforcement official should NOT be saying things like this, and should be disciplined or fired.
I wonder if he was actually posting this in relation to his personal life relationships and not in relation to his job role....then all of this would make perfect sense and of course mean that it’s been blown out of proportion.
Your virtue signalling is noted.
Yep, let them wallow in the steaming pile they voted for.
So the man objects to communism, can’t blame him for that. The Dems are indeed the communist party.
It is indeed impolitic, and more than a little suggestive of stability issues.
“Regardless, a law enforcement official should NOT be saying things like this, and should be disciplined or fired.”
It was tongue-in-cheek referring to the end of times.
Sheriffs are elected. No discipline. No firings.
In Florida, the governor can suspend.
Right… one side has to play nice while the other cheats, steals, riots and so on. Sorry, but these are the new rules and everyone should get to enjoy them.
Hmmm, Supreme Court already said police have no duty to protect.
I dont agree with that premise, but as a matter of law thats where we are.
So what this guy has said doesn’t go against the USSC decision at all.
But it rubs me that police would expect to be paid for...not being responsible for protection.
People need to take care of themselves and each other going forward. Dont ‘expect’ police to help. If we get to a time where all police have honor and strive to the duty to protect, then we can have another conversation.
“... I will not help you survive the end of days.”
In the “end of days” it’s probably going to be everyone for themselves except for family/few friends. I don’t expect there to be any functioning government services; at least none I’d want.
“in the end of days” I don’t know maybe the end is near but it wasn’t a statement made in any official capacity.
My thoughts exactly.
After all, they’ll have brought it on themselves should they lose.
Yes, that’s correct.
Getting my DOT physical in Springfield Ohio today. The waiting room had 8 Haitians getting some Occupational Service (I’m hoping it wasn’t a DOT physical because they could not speak English. They did have one designated guide so…)
My Grandson is getting his drivers license and I’m very worried.
Virtue signaling? Sorry, Hope, you sound like a Democrat. Act like them, and you become one.
I took it to mean at the end of time.
